47 | Phil Foden - 2025/26

Don't really blame him or O Reilly there.

He isnt a LW, and normally we have a trio of Foden, O Reilly AND Doku, but the left side was simply the 2.

Its just a different way, because the right side is where we had a strong trio of Cherki, Nunes and Reijnders.

That's fine, while Doku is out I dont mind us being more right sided dominant.

He was ok today, definitely not a bad performance, just less impact at LW. But I don't like accomodating an inferior player in Reijnders to shift both Cherki and Foden out wide. I guess it was west ham at home though so pep might just be getting through the game and we did win convincingly.

Bernardo played on the left though? Foden was in the middle

Bit of interchange of course, with Bernardo much deeper. But I felt Foden was more left than central. Funny how people see different things

Needed to be nearer to Cherki to be at maximum impact but aside from the first goal involvement, he was pretty quiet. No doubting his touch and technique are top notch though.

His game has evolved now. He isn't just the impact player who looks great on a highlights reel, he still does that as shown with his 6 goals in yhe last 2 weeks but he is also an integral part of the system now too. Puts in as big of a shift as anybody now, he's involved in breaking lines deeper playing the ball quickly to get others into space, he will barely feature in a quick 5 minutes highlights of the match but he had a good game.

Instead of looking at their spots on any website (all sites I saw had Foden LW and Bernie LCM).

Here is an average position map to hammer the point home.
Well that doesn't show Foden playing left wing - left inside forward in old money.

The point is that Bernie is primarily in the middle, with Foden LW drifting in.

I never said he hugged the touchline.

But the argument was between who was the LW on paper, Foden or Bernie, hopefully that clears it up.

It does - neither. Niko O was giving the width.
