Just knew as soon as pep said he'd weigh the players after Christmas, that the media would have a field day with it. Even football manager now has taken weight out of the game as a visible metric and factor, to avoid upsetting people. The fact they chose this years edition do it, being the same edition they introduced women's football, was probably ill advised.
In reality it's a key measurement of fitness and discipline to the cause, and I imagine pretty much every team is keeping a check on it as, if like Pep said, if a player comes back 3kgs heavier in a week, nearly half a stone, then it's a problem potentially. I get it's hard at this time of year, but for professional athletes at the top of their game it's a necessity if they want to be the best.
Still, Pep hates fatties is a much better attention grabber!
I personally won't be following Pep's guidelines, being that I'm in my 40s and have no realistic prospect of winning a premier league medal this season. But if any premier league club wants to pay me upwards of £80k per week then I'll reconsider. Although I did just buy some Gouda, manchego and Comte that just won't eat themselves...
