4 | Tijjani Reijnders - 2025/26

I'm not letting the goal influence my opinion of his performance, I said a few days ago, his performance in the cup was the best we've seen of him to date in a central midfield role, today was another small improvement on midweek. Positionally a lot better both with and without the ball. Does a lot of legwork that goes unnoticed and often unused. Still a long, way off being at the level expected and required but positive signs.

The finish was superb, only place it has any chance of going in, saying that, he had another chance to score that was easier and he just smashed it straight down the keepers throat.

Loads better. A good building block from midweek. Seems to be getting involved in the Foden and Cherki Brazil-ball too.

Did well today and I think he'll come good. Sometimes, you can tell right away that a new player doesn't have talent, or the fit looks suspect from the start - I don't think that's the case here. Just typical first season in the prem/under Pep.

I really think his start is being underrated because of the last couple of weeks.

He started brilliantly at Wolves and was then ticking over quite nicely as part of the team in the weeks after, slotting in and doing okay, delivering some good performances here and there. But since that October international break he's been in and out of the side and it's affected his form a bit.

I still think he'll finish the season with 7-10 goals and about 10-15 assists, which is more than acceptable for a CM who's been played all over the place (even ending up at RB the other night). He's been unlucky in front of goal in quite a few games. More to the point, he's still adjusting to his first season in England and to being in a Pep side.

He's not got much of a clue defensively but that can get better.
Standing by this from a few weeks ago. He's doing okay. Would like to see him play well when the team isn't at its best - at the moment he plays just as well or as poorly as the whole team does. But that's for later.

I think Reinjders is really starting to settle into the PL. He has shown in patches that he has real talent and I believe there is so much more to come from this lad.

Good performance offensively today even without the goal. Remains to be seen how he will shape up defensively

He could have 6-8 goals to his name this season and hopefully this kick starts him
On a run now. I have no doubt he will be a top signing and shut a few up on here.

6 have been straight at keeper

Encouraging though that he was getting in the right positions mate. My pint was I reckon after his debut, if his chance say against the rags went in then he would have been more confident and maybe took a few of the other ones? He’s a top player and I am
101% confident that he will end up being a brilliant player for us going forward.

Just been having a look at the records of some City midfielders down the years to compare Reijnders against.

In his first 24 City games, Reijnders has 9 G/A (3 goals, 6 assists).

David Silva had 9 G/A (2 goals, 7 assists)
Ilkay Gundogan had 7 G/A (5 goals, 2 assists)
Samir Nasri had 10 G/A (3 goals, 7 assists)
James Milner had 5 G/A (0 goals, 5 assists)
Yaya Toure had 8 G/A (5 goals, 3 assists)
De Bruyne had 18 G/A (10 goals, 8 assists) lmao, he was the greatest.

Reijnders is doing alright so far compared to them lot.

Some of our fanbase were too quick to judge him. He is a classy player, and his ability has never been a doubt despite the up and down performances in his first few months here. He will be another Gundogan for us sooner rather than later.

Spot on

Yesterday was the perfect time to comment, because we won 3-0, but it was never a 3-0 game, and Palace missed some chances originating from our mistakes.

At times our midfield looks a bit lightweight but whereas Foden and Cherki are now scoring or assisting seemingly every week and Gonzales is emerging as an influential figure, it's only natural that we question the other players

However it doesn't mean that we think they're hopeless and should be dropped or sold. It just needs a bit of tinkering until Rodri returns (assuming he does return at some point)

I'd also add that virtually every game Reijnders has a good opportunity to score and there's always the potential for him to enjoy a purple patch of goals.
Responding to my last paragraph so essentially talking to myself.

Reijinders has now scored 3 PL goals and his stats are starting to improve. However, alongside Foden and Cherki, we still look a bit lightweight in midfield and rely too much on Gonsales and Bernardo when the opposition have the ball.
