Antoine Semenyo | Prefers to join City - Ornstein (p73)

Love the Sky sports news reporting "manchester city emerge as the frontrunner for semenyo" acting like its a horse race and we've stormed to the front from nowhere when everybody else has seen us leading from the start.

If cherki isn't our permanent RW option, what is he because he doesn't displace Foden centrally and that is the only way you can get both into a healthy side.
No one is a permanent option and for the last time

You cannot play the same players and the same team every single game all season. Players coming in shouldn't be much/any weaker than those rested or you win fuck all. Having good players who can play different positions helps squad harmony over having 2 players for every position.

Wtf have some of you been watching since Pep arrived.

Saw this on the BBC article:

Bournemouth accept they are vulnerable to losing their key player and willing to negotiate with any club prepared to allow him to stay with them until the end of the season.

I would have thought the lad would have been keen to join a club that was potentially going for honours this season not next. Probably just a wish from the BBC rather than a serious risk.

Depends how Pep wants to play and the opposition. Cherki would be a perfect 10 who can drift to the wings, but you'd need the wingers to keep width & have the FBs next to the 6.

What a problem to have Foden & Cherki. Be plenty of games where Foden & Cherki will play central together.

I don’t get it.
Smells like bullshit to me. All to hike his appeal to another club.
He’s not that good and not what we need. Wouldn’t improve us at all..
Can’t see us being interested if I’m honest.

If you`re going to tell lies you need to have a good memory ... something you clearly aint got.
If you regard him as not good enough then you must not have seen the lad play because at the point of repeating myself again to you, he has been exceptional for his club all season and his stats prove that.Thats one good reason why other clubs are/have been interested in his services. But you seem to think you know better than Pep but I`ll let him be the judge of that.
You also need to read what I stated ref poor/shit or whatever words are on par with him not being good enough. Something which I did indicate on my second response to you but you failed to read correctly if at all.
As I said you`re on the back foot and have been for some time and not with just myself but quite a few other posters.
Proved my point

Hope you dropped the mic? :-)

Nice try Bournemouth :-)

What I found funny about sky over the last few days is United are serious contenders for him, Liverpool will go for him now with Isak out city remain interested

Now it’s city are favourites now Chelsea have pulled out and no mention of United and Liverpool

Looks a shit signing to me, there simply to make up the numbers and fill the English quota. Hes 26 years old in 2 weeks and has achieved absolutely nothing in his career apart from winning EFL Championship Player of the Month in January 2022. Looks nothing more than a slightly above average player in a good run of form. A poor man's Wilfred zaha

There's probably 15-20 wide attackers comfortably better than him in this league alone. Feels like at worst it could be a scott sinclair job and at absolute very best he might make a fraction of the impact grealish had
You're right. He must be shit if he's never been picked for England

Those you mentioned as counter example getting on for 10-15 years ago

i’m specifically talking about overpriced overhyped premier league players - and Semenyo appears to follow that mould as do players like Wharton and Anderson
I mentioned them because you were quoting many examples from a similar era.
The only true failure we've had recently was Phillips.
I also pointed out that other teams are playing premier league imports with success.
We also need Association trained players in our squad. Is your answer to buy them from the Championship?
I agree PL players tend to command a premium fee compared with players from other leagues but you need a certain number for a full squad . The fee does not make them intrinsically poor players, in fact I suspect the average standard of player in the PL has never been higher.

This makes sense, Viana liked to recruit within the league at Sporting, taking players performing well in a smaller team and adding them to Sporting. Make another team weaker and Sporting stronger. I think he's trying to do that here we have done that before but right now going by links our entire transfer list are players within the league who are performing well. He even did that with the next Sporting Manager Amorim was at a lower club.

When he signed , an article came out saying he does recruit from outside the league but prefers to recruit within as they are proven and can slot right in to the Sporting set up.

Looking at the targets which have been consistently linked they are all within the league.

Anderson - Forests best midfielder
Guehi - Crystal Palace best defender
Semenyo - Bournemouth best attacker
Tino Livramento - Solid right back
Wharton - Crystal palace stand out midfielder
