Antoine Semenyo | Prefers to join City - Ornstein (p73)

Might not even be the release clause if it involves Ake.

Or could be more but spread. I did read that United were trying to do the same but who knows.

Sending Ake the other way making up room for Guehi would be great squad planning from Viana. Could also see Bobb going to Bournemouth, it would be a good move for him. Still believe Bobb has the ability to make it at City but we can’t afford to wait for that to happen.

So if he helps us get into the champions league that’s a successful signing? Isn’t that the bare minimum from our squad.

He’s played half a season and it seems like he can’t get into the side and he might be leaving - based on reports
Doesn't make the money spent wasted ,especially as you have no idea what we would get for him if/when we sell him.

Those you mentioned as counter example getting on for 10-15 years ago

i’m specifically talking about overpriced overhyped premier league players - and Semenyo appears to follow that mould as do players like Wharton and Anderson
I mentioned them because you were quoting many examples from a similar era.
The only true failure we've had recently was Phillips.
I also pointed out that other teams are playing premier league imports with success.
We also need Association trained players in our squad. Is your answer to buy them from the Championship?
I agree PL players tend to command a premium fee compared with players from other leagues but you need a certain number for a full squad . The fee does not make them intrinsically poor players, in fact I suspect the average standard of player in the PL has never been higher

Well no one does. I’m judging him on the fee he cost and how he’s fitted into our side. Currently he’s a bench player, who might be leaving. That’s after one season.

He was really good for a few months, but I think it’s fair to question the signing and the long term thinking

Getting him would almost give us that Sane, Sterling, Aguero type front three when we play with Doku, Semenyo, Haaland.

Arguably Savinho too. Our style of football with Cherki and Phil behind could be extremely exciting.
I agree with that, though if the midfield 3 is Gonzalez/ Rodri ,Foden, Cherki it does make me think we'd need a less attack minded pair of fullbacks, we'd want at least one that inverts in beside the DM .

Saw this on the BBC article:

Bournemouth accept they are vulnerable to losing their key player and willing to negotiate with any club prepared to allow him to stay with them until the end of the season.

I would have thought the lad would have been keen to join a club that was potentially going for honours this season not next. Probably just a wish from the BBC rather than a serious risk.
All depends really. They’re currently on a terrible run and, if West Ham strengthen in January, are vulnerable to being relegated. This becomes more likely should they lose him in January.
Stay with Bournemouth until end of season and his price halves, might be the sort of deal they’re talking about. Of course, it might not…

Yeah, true. Maybe Nico O'Reilly would be less marauding and tuck in (luckily both full backs are actually CMs). I could see Phil slowly going deeper and playing the David Silva role, allowing Cherki a bit more freedom.

Either way it gives us far more options and adds power and pace for open matches - which obviously become more common later in the season as teams chase points and get more desperate.

nope thats not success but weve got haaland and much like rodri every year we get who'll play understudy to these two
i dont know if decent or not im not DOF and have to justify spending
as for reports i take everyone with pinch of salt football journalist these days must be easy click on forums test water and story created along with clicks

On the face of it he would be a significant upgrade on what we currently have, just coming into his prime too. Our last signing from Bournemouth turned out really well too

I'd settle for plenty of 3-2 and 5-4 wins on the journey to becoming champions again.

Then we could chant "boring boring Arsenal"
