7 | Omar Marmoush - 2025/26

Firstly, why change what is becoming a very strong 'winning' system and secondly, if you do cgange it, who are you going to drop to shoehorn Marmoush into the team?

Doku? Cherki? Foden?

(Please don't say 'rotate', that's just nonsense)

Reijnders.

And rotation isn't nonsense but signing Delap to replace Haaland would have been.

I also don't think this current system is without its issues. Yes we are winning games and hopefully it becomes more effective but we have long periods across the 90mins where we look completely overrun.

Reijnders isn't a starter

Haaland
Doku Foden Cherki
Gonzalez Bernado (Rodri eventually)

So already Reijnders is currently not in the best starting 11. He starts now coz Doku isn't available.

On current form with everyone healthy, he'd be coming off the bench

Absolutely lethal finisher. Wish we’d see him more often. Pep needs to let him play out wide, if it’s between him and Haaland up top then he’ll never get a chance
Not as good as Jezza though and seems to struggle on the right. If Semenyo signs it looks like the writing is on the wall for him here.

I think we are seeing a team develop where we have 15 or 16 starters depending on home or away, top opponent or low block, etc, etc…

We already watch 3 different formations in the game with the First XI, but then the subs often create another one…or two!!

Strings to the bow and all that, given we have at least 5 midfield starters!

Under Pep we've never really had a first 11. We've had a small squad and picked the right people to beat the opposition. That's where we want to get to again.

We used to be able to rotate the team even quite dramatically at times and see no drop off in our dominance and results. To get back there we need to integrate the wider squad.

Marmoush hasn't been good enough this season, but in time he can make an impact for us and initially I think it would help if he played off Haaland and then potentially moved into the number 9 spot to give him some rest. Would take the pressure off him and help build confidence.

I would n't be judging Marmoush on this season's performances. He has n't played enough games mainly due to injury and possibly falling out of favour with Pep. He needs more games, but he showed last season he has the ability and can score in the PL. Whether he gets the game time in the second half of the season is another matter, but competition is fierce and like Alvarez he may decide his future lies elsewhere. I hope he stays.

I’m not sure I agree on your first point. Our best players, when fit always start the big games. KDB, Haaland, Walker, Dias, Rodri and plenty of others always start/started when fit. This season we’ve barely rotated at all

The issue we’ve always had is that our squad players want regular game time, which we can’t always offer them.

We aren’t resting Haaland either

We had a core of starters but we also had rotation, with Akanji at RB or the LB changing. Bernie sometimes wide right instead of Mahrez, or Foden used there.

We had a consistent spine generally and a consistent formation but subtle changes in players depending on the opposition.

We were narrow against Palace for long periods, Reijnders tasked with supporting Haaland. Marmoush would do a better job there. In other games where you want width further forwards he wouldn't be as suited.

From what I have seen this season I wouldn't say we have a completely settled bullet proof system or lineup yet. There are still periods we look rattled.

Ultimately my point is simply that he deserves more time and I wouldn't be as quick to confuse he isn't good enough just yet.

You said/ agreed with another poster that Savinho would play in Dokus absence.
Cherki and Foden have taken that role since Doku got injured.
I didn't, I suggested Pep would probably use Savinho ahead of Marmoush if he hadn't gone to AFCON.

Anyway Cherki & Foden have been great in Dokus absence. Merry Christmas mate, have a gooden.

Doku stepping up and playing as he can for a place and Omars early Injury probably has set him back as being picked for the left attack role, add to that since the savinho to spurs /new contract fuck up by the execs Pep seems beligerent about dropping Sav down the pecking order and he gets minutes many think Marmoush should have come on for.

I would like to see him stay and play, but he is good enough to be a 1st teamer at any club and would understand if he wanted to go for playing time, especially with the world cup coming up

Its quite interesting to think of what circumstances you'd use different players
Id say Savinho if we're winning and need pace to get us up the pitch. Without checking seems to have been replacing Cherki.
Marmoush more of a goal threat, less pace, seems best drifting offf the left so needs to sub for Doku.
Maybe it's that Semenyo can do both those roles and being strong and left footed as the best option to play Erlings role
Maybe it's that Semenyo can do more jobs , would love to know what Peo is planning here.

Haaland can't and shouldn't be playing 60 games a season or we'll end up with another rodri situation. Marmoush is capable of deputising even if we have to tweak the system a bit. All the talk of him not fitting in the starting 11 is crazy. We shouldn't have a fixed 11 and we haven't until the last couple of seasons.
