Antoine Semenyo | Prefers to join City - Ornstein (p73)

was thnking the same...none of our current wide players seem to attack the back post very much at all....Sterling was so good at this and got so many goals from it ...not sure why doku and Sav dont do it
Perhaps Sterling was a better player than he was given credit for? There are very few wide forwards who could score as many goals as he once did.

Wait? We are the favourites now?
Great player, difference maker, can't wait to get my tattoo. :-)
People on here are good at saying they'll get tattoos if A, B or C happens. I remember a poster saying they'd get one if Brighton won at the Emirates in the run in in '23 (or was it' 24?). Never seen any confirmation that it happened, mind.

Love the Sky sports news reporting "manchester city emerge as the frontrunner for semenyo" acting like its a horse race and we've stormed to the front from nowhere when everybody else has seen us leading from the start.

If cherki isn't our permanent RW option, what is he because he doesn't displace Foden centrally and that is the only way you can get both into a healthy side.
IMO Cherki is going to be something we haven’t seen under Pep - a player who has a free role.

I think we’ll see him roaming around in what would be the traditional 10 position, but in pockets right across the whole pitch in that channel.

I see him, from this roaming position, feeding those little through balls for Doku and Semenyo running onto for pull backs to the the edge of the six yard box.

Won’t happen, we haven’t got the wiggle room in the budgets until summer, unless of course we have a blockbuster of outs in Jan, which is a tad unlikely.
Why do we have to wait unril the summer if we've got squad space & the player we want is available. I presume we could borrow the money like we've done in the past

This makes sense, Viana liked to recruit within the league at Sporting, taking players performing well in a smaller team and adding them to Sporting. Make another team weaker and Sporting stronger. I think he's trying to do that here we have done that before but right now going by links our entire transfer list are players within the league who are performing well. He even did that with the next Sporting Manager Amorim was at a lower club.

When he signed , an article came out saying he does recruit from outside the league but prefers to recruit within as they are proven and can slot right in to the Sporting set up.

Looking at the targets which have been consistently linked they are all within the league.

Anderson - Forests best midfielder
Guehi - Crystal Palace best defender
Semenyo - Bournemouth best attacker
Tino Livramento - Solid right back
Wharton - Crystal palace stand out midfielder

I wonder if this is also an eye on the future for when Pep does finally decide to call it a day

You say that, but I saw a fella away once who had a massive CL trophy on his calf the year after we lost the final. Year crossed out.

There's probably more who feel like you but are holding back posting due to the abuse they'll get.

Fair play to you, I've not read further but I'm sure you've had some replies and hopefully all have been understanding of your view and being balanced in their replies.....
Why is it a shit signing ??

I understand there might be concerns that it migh not work out but every signing has a risk to it, or is because we are signing him from lowely Bournemouth.

As much as I want Savinho & Bobb to succeed here at this moment in time they're not in our starting 11 & are unlikely to change a game

That’s a good point but I can’t see us selling to the red scousers..
If the money is right, I'm not so sure we would refuse it.
If we consider the rags, dippers, arsenal, Chelsea, villa, Newcastle, spurs being our "rivals", a common theme is that everyone of those clubs have at least one of our former players currently with them.
Some have arrived by a circuitous route like Frimpong and Rogers whereas others are direct sales, Sterling and Jesus.
I' d have had no issue selling Delap and Lavia to Chelsea directly if the fee was higher.

So if he helps us get into the champions league that’s a successful signing? Isn’t that the bare minimum from our squad.

He’s played half a season and it seems like he can’t get into the side and he might be leaving - based on reports
Seeing as we posted a £10m loss in the accounts, how much would not qualifying for UCL have cost us & It would have slowed down the squad rebuild.

I’d lead them down the garden path.
Let them think it’s all good and let them agree terms.
Then when it comes to signing the contract remind them of when they attacked our bus, when they threw coins at Pep, when they threw a weighted pint pot at the crowd hitting a girl.

Call them scum and tell them to go fuck themselves… but in a professional tone.
