Marc Guehi | Leading target for City (p28)

Can't see Palace letting him go in January. Think they'll be desperate to win the Conference League to get European football again next season.

I'd agree. The transfer fee is so low, any replacement will cost them a similar amount and be worse. They stand to make more from keeping him, finishing higher up the table and possibly qualifying for Europe again next season than cashing in. Plus they'll lose Glasner, if only mentally - although I think he goes
in the summer regardless as they can't afford to match his ambition.

O’Reilly is nowhere near the quality we need in midfield, he will never make it in that position with us, imo.

He so is mate!!! Perhaps not as a 6 as he'd have to turn off that instinct he has for driving forwards but he'd be fantastic as an 8. I had the same opinion as you initially but he's developed so much in the LB role. His composure is unbelievable. When we were under the cosh late on against Real he was so relaxed and helped us see the game out. He was very much a midfielder in our academy and was fantastic. Strong, quick and excellent skill. All those things he does at LB he could do in midfield.

As I said, I'm not sure he can play 6 just yet because it's so critical in our system but he'd be brilliant playing alongside Rodri/Nico.

We won't see it purely because he needs rest himself having played at LB so much - and he'll have his eye on the WC spot too.

I really wish Dias wasn’t under contract until 2029. I can’t see him sitting Dias or gvardiol. What would happen with this guy? He’s too good to not play a lot and I’m sure he realizes that.

We need more than two top centre backs though. We play 60+ games a season, there’ll be injuries, suspension, lack of form or just needing a rest.

Guehi is better than all ours except Gvardiol. Stones too but he’s almost always injured, sadly. So we definitely need Guehi, he’d be a superb signing.

Look how well akanji fitted in when he was supposedly coming as back up centre back

I can only see it happening if we give them a lot of money plus Aké.

Then the board can go to Glasner and say “we’ve swapped Guehi with another international quality defender and now we have £50m to spend in January too”

Might help them more with their second half of the season than just keeping Guehi.

What is this even based on?

Lad comes in as a teenager and shows incredible technique, physical ability and intelligence. He could play anywhere, which is why he’s doing so well out of position but as Pep has said a hundred times, long term he’s a midfielder.

Being a midfielder isn’t just about physical traits and the IQ required to play at fullback and in midfield are worlds apart. NOR is very one footed, decision making could be improved and his first touch isn’t great. His best qualities are suited to fullback.

Glasner will have no say in this deal, especially if as rumoured he’s leaving. Being in Europe isn’t worth the money they would miss out on with a transfer fee of say £25m?

Guehi could still come in the summer but if Ake goes the club must have a plan. Khusanov could play more.

Dias, Gvardiol, Stones, Khusanov. Have Mfuni to use as well.

Yeah, it was an early post lol, overtired from new puppy, haha. Probably sounded too harsh, I just think when I’ve seen him in midfield he looks too one-footed and struggles, however his curve has been so steep at left back that he probably is capable of progressing in midfield, but I still think he will stay as a left back as he’s so good at that position.

Would be a crazy deal from our perspective to spend that much when he's available on a free in 6 months. If we're that desperate to shift Ake in January we should just bring Reis back early.
