I don't know if a free press is even that glorious. As we know journalists make a lot of shit up and seem to prefer coin/likes to the truth.

But there are some decent people to be fair but where were they when their fellow employees were destroying journalistic principles? Why weren't they protecting the truth from gossip and fantasy? Why were they allowing nonesense to pass for news?

Imo the back pages (and celebrity paparazzi) were part of the ruination of the press long before the likes of Trump.

Sad state of affairs all round.

I think that’s just modern day democracy in action mate. Our woes are caused by a specific section of society, immigrants, the wealthy, the bankers, etc etc. So long as we are presented with a balanced view and able to make our own decisions then democracy remains regardless of whether we agree with the outcome or not. Are our news outlets unbiased? Most aren’t. What is staggering is how complicit they can be in a false narrative - I happen to know for a fact something that was widely reported in all papers and news broadcasts this year something that was not actually true - it wasn’t material to the outcome but was still untrue and they must have known it.

See my other reply to you mate. Our press isn’t brilliant but at least we can find opposing views if we care to, if all press is coerced in to one message you lose an objective balance.

We bemoan the lack of honest politicians but the witch hunt that follows any slip up or misspoken word has them talking in riddles rather than answering a question. It is a sad state of affairs that lets lies live.

True but it was more than a lack of quality for many a year.

Journalists have been an utter disgrace in general because they have never addressed their own ills (that i know of). As long as they were paid or lauded they couldn't give shit that their medium was a farce.

And me! I love Michael Caine. It was kind of hard to see him as Scrooge. Trump’s a lot easier to see as Scrooge, save for Scrooge working hard as a boy, being smart, saving money instead of spending it, falling in love as a young man, having a bit of wit, or having any chance at redemption whatsoever.

A massive ship of an entirely new class, doesn’t go from ‘propoganda renderings’ to ‘launch’ in 2.5 years.

In 2.5 years you might have finished the original design spec and done a PR 1st steel cutting, but it’s very doubtful.

The USS Zumwalt destroyer was a new ship design (vastly smaller to Trump’s), it took 3 years from ordering (ie years after the design process), for it to be launched, and another 3 years for it to be handed over/commissioned into the Navy.

Its just pure smoke and mirrors, echoing the grandiose propaganda schemes of another fascist dictatorship from almost a century ago.

Was annoyed about Biden giving his son a pardon at the time, but looking at how vengeful and capricious Trump is being now it was absolutely the correct thing to do as a father.

Ridiculous power to possess btw, certainly to that extent, but you can’t ultimately criticise Biden for exercising it. Don’t see what choice he had, as he would know just how nasty Trump was and how much he hated him for 2020.

Anyone who cannot now see what a horrible **** Trump truly is, then they are completely beyond help.
