52 | Oscar Bobb - 2025/26

Think he needs a permanent move

His ceiling is still so high but not at us, he needs to be playing consistently

Permanent move with a buy back clause suits us

Still think he's a special talent. Needs to play regularly though. He turns 23 next year and hasn't played enough top-flight football so far.

Why can we never seem to development that talent though? It’s always that they need to go somewhere else to develop

Yet we can spend huge amounts of money on players like savinho or Khusanov and develop other teams players.

That injury totally killed him. It not only killed his momentum, but due to a few good games in pre season games it built up massive expectations while he was out. Never known a player's reputation grow as much as his while he was out. Feel like the pressure and big expectations plus his poor form have totally affected the lad.
Had he never returned from injury he'd have been Balon Dor material at this stage.

We are leaders in developing our talent

Foden and NOR are in our best XI, Lewis has loads of appearances, Bobb has a handful and would have more if it wasnt for his injury

Palmer was ready but competition was too fierce

Show me another top club, who compete on all levels like we do, with so many academy players at the top level? Lewis-Skelly and Nwaneri are top talents yet Arsenal are chasing trophies and both have found gametime limited.

The Dippers had Trent Arnold, Curtis Jones is a squad player who probably would've become a better player had he moved. Harvey Elliot, Sterling and now the Rio lad were all brought from other academies

And thats not including Trafford, Delap, Rogers, Sancho, Lavia etc. Who all havd great development at us

We develop players, but the vast majority don’t end up playing in our first team and end up going on loan or leaving. Based on reports Bobb and Lewis will be leaving as well.

Foden is the one only one who has properly made it at city and is a guaranteed first team player. O’reily has only started playing regularly this season, so we will see how that goes.

I haven’t said every young player we have, should end up playing regularly for us - that’s pretty obvious. However I do think some of the young players we’ve had/ do have are more than good enough to play regularly.

Foden, Lewis, OReilly, multiple tranformations like Nunes etc.

Progress is not linear. Its tough to bet on the right horse all the time. It depends on particular case. We had to choose with playing time between Phil and Palmer for instance. We should have left KDB or Grealish on the bench to make a room for Rogers when hes been breaking into first team football etc.?

Sorry, but these theses of Yours are weak and lack prior analysis of individual cases. If you had carried out an analysis, you would know that introducing academy players into a first team that competes for all trophies every year is extremely complex.

Sorry what haha is that a chat GPT answer ;)

Let me just carry out my analysis!

I don't know how anyone has enough info about him to have a strong enough opinion either way!

You're absolutely right. We don't. It's just an intuition that there's something there that's worth developing. And then there are those who saw nothing, either pre- or post-injury.

My general point, though — and I'd stand by it — is that there's a not very healthy tendency, not just on here, but in the stadium, to be pretty impatient with players. (Jesus, I think about some of the comments I was hearing around me about Rodri in that first season…) Bobb is not a clear-cut case, and I'm the first to concede that. Phillips was very clear — he'd just wandered into a level of team that he simply couldn't get near to. Palmer was very clear in the opposite direction — he was very clearly a talented footballer (and he's gone on to prove it) and he felt, rightly or wrongly, that he was good enough to merit a fairly regular first-team spot. Pep didn't see it that way, he's the boss, fair enough, they shook hands on it and Palmer went on his way.

Lack of opportunity and lack of patience.

Why hang about on 'basic' wages at EDS level, waiting for a turn that may never come, when regular high level football and a guaranteed contract elsewhere with significantly increased wages is on the table.

Only a very poorly advised optimist would turn down a move in today's game. (James McAtee) Any well advised player will jump at the chance (Kalvin Phillips)

There's no loyalty in football whether to club by players or vice versa. Loyalty only exists for supporters..

It’s just a job. Good luck to Oscar Bobb and those in the same position

Quite sure the club values his potential and the player knows he needs playing time but that it cannot currently be guaranteed. Unless the club has question marks over his ability to remain injury-free, a loan to Girona would have made more sense for the remainder of this season. However, that option might prove impossible for a number of reasons.

The whole thing is frustrating. I was keen to see him given a chance but his injuries put an end to that. I still think he could become a great player. But maybe not at City the way the wind is blowing.

Shown enough, before the injury, to suggest he has a future here and I would much rather see Savinho exit or Bobb go on loan and review the situation again in the summer.

Im convinced Bobb just needs regular run of first team football to blossom.
I'm with you 100% on that. Given the form he was in, I considered him to be as much of a loss to us as Rodri was last season. I think he was ready to hit the ground running, just hasn't quite got back to that yet.

Too many people too quick to write players off on here, Doku, Nunes, Savinho (who has done well again lately). Some were saying even Foden and O'Reilly were done last season.

Yes, very true. I think it's a lot more difficult at a club like City too because if we want to stay at the top and keep challenging then we can't risk using younger, inexperienced players in the way that, say, a mid- table club could. They could lose a couple of matches but it wouldn't matter too much, they're not going to finish top 6 and they're not going to go down but we don't have that luxury.

And let's be honest, few have left City and become world class players elsewhere.
