Marc Guehi | Leading target for City (p28)

So we say he goes to Liverpool for free when we could have got him for £50m how much will a player of his quality cost us in the summer it will be a lot more than £50m
If he goes to Liverpool for free, it'll be because he wanted to go to Liverpool. The days of clubs forcing players to go anywhere are long gone. He hasn't let his contract run down for anyone else's benefit

He could be 50/50 on a decision and if paying a fee in January gets us to the top of the queue it would be worth it.

If he's 50/50 on a decision then we'll need to convince him to choose us, not throw money at his current club. They are not involved in his decision
Is it not better to pay money to be the only runner in a race or pay nothing and be in a 3 or a 4 horse race

If we offer money and he wants Liverpool he will go for free in the summer and it costs us
Us nothing. If he’s undecided on a decision and we offer money in Jan maybe Palace will try convince him to leave they’ll get money and he will look good to the palace fans.

Question if you were the hierarchy at Palace do you want to let him go on a free, they can't force him to go in Jan. If you were in Palace's situation what would you do

We don't need to pay money to 'get in the race'. The only person we need to convince to join us is the player.
If he wants Liverpool, he will go to Liverpool. If we can convince him to come here, he will come here. He's running down his deal for a reason. He's not going to be persuaded by his current club to go somewhere he doesn't want to go just because we've offered them money

Actually they probably could a little - it’s a World Cup year so if he was told he was being replaced by say Ake and told he wouldn’t play and he needs to go he probably would to preserve his place

Yes replace him with whomever and tell him he's not playing, works for me, I for one wouldn't want to lose millions. End of the day it's business, it's all quiet at the moment

With potentially Ake, Stones, Akanji, Bernardo, Grealish, Ortega, maybe Marmoush, maybe Trafford, maybe Kovacic and at least one of the wingers moving on either now or in the summer, that’s a lot of wiggle room in terms of wages alone. Thats before the usual academy and CFG sales

He’ll probably see it out at this point.

Certainly if I was his agent I would be suggesting that to him.

Palace can’t complain.

This idea of jumping the q, probably isn’t there. He either chooses us or Liverpool.

Ideally there form continues to drop and out of CL, whilst we win the PL.

Otherwise I think he is going Liverpool, play alongside Van Dijk for a season and then become main man.

At ours he would be part of a 3 with Dias and Gvardiol and whilst it’s a squad game, CB’s tend to be partnerships.

Great player and home grown, but we could have these bases covered with other players, so a new CB we could go worldwide and there are better

Agree with that, though this might just be a Viana special - an ‘opportunity’ signing like Donnarumma and Cherki, where the age, experience and low price compared to true value makes it too good to pass up

Glasner leaving in the summer so no reason for Palace to refuse money to keep the manager happy?
Unless they just want to have the best season possible. The higher they finish the more appealing the job is. More money from the prem and European football as well.

But like De Zerbi at Brighton I feel it will drop off towards the end of the season.

Given they were willing to sell, then only sell if a viable replacement was found to keep Glasner happy makes me think they would. Unless the player wants to stay as a World Cup year and could get a much better contract if he’s a free transfer.

I like Palace's stance, honestly what does money get them? Not an awful lot. What does £30mil do for them right now

They are in Europe, Guehi is their captain and rock, if they want a chance of winning some (more) silverware they should keep Guehi

They turned down over £60mil last Jnauary and won the FA Cup & community shield, they turned down £30mil in summer as they wanted to qualify for Europa, they will turn down £20mil this window to go as deep as they can and get as good as league finish as possible

Its a risk, but for them it's worth it and I like that

For Guehi he gets a big fat signing on bonus if he leaves on a free, and Palace will adore him unlike the scum Dippers who boo TAA
