Saddened to hear this - Alex ran the Swinton branch for years and he was Chair of the Centenary Supporters Association when I was secretary. A brilliant Blue.
I'm pretty sure he started out as a miner at Bradford Collery - working way below City's now stadium.
And yes I'd forgotten about the Sierra Leone connection, all the shirts sent out over there in a van.
