Sorry for your loss mate, lost my dad just before Xmas 2 years ago, its fucking tough, thoughts with you and your family.

Truly gutted upon hearing this too. Worked with Alex for a good few years in a school in salford and kept in contact with him for years after. One of life's good guys who would go above and beyond to help anyone. The kids adored him and was like a father figure to many. Condolences to all family and friends. The world is a lesser place without him x

Sorry for your loss mate, my dads still going will reach 81 this year, I’m off to watch Sunderland game at his house tonight, if I don’t watch a game with him I make sure to phone him after to talk about the game, I know how precious those moments are becoming. I’m sure your old man will be looking down come the end of May as we do the quadruple.

Going through my dad's final wishes , he'd like a bagpiper playing blue moon , thought I'd ask on here if anyone knows of anyone that could help

I was deeply saddened to learn of Alex's passing through the Sierra Leone facebook post this morning. I am sending my deepest condolences to you and your family. I first met Alex back in 2011. He was leading an effort to gather kit for a kids football team in Ghana at the same time that he'd also been involved in the Sierra Leone project. I went to his house and he was one of the kindest people I've ever met. He had gathered together kit donated by Blues and the kit donations themselves had me emotional as they said as much about how generous Blues were even though they themselves were often facing hardship. With the Sierra Leone project getting the club's backing, Alex inspired me to try and help the kids team in Ghana through the contact he had established with Peter Amoabil in Tamale, who is a lifelong Blue out there. I was really lucky to visit the club shop one day when they were quiet and randomly had a huge sale of kids kits at knock down prices. So I bought two teams worth of MCFC kits and flew to Ghana with them, all the while with Alex co-ordinating many offers of help from other Blues. Ashton Town Football club donated their previous season full team kit, even though they were adult sized kits they were gratefully received. When I arrived in Tamale in Ghana with all the donations, which included a woolly hat (not really needed in Ghana!), the kids were ecstatic. I sent Alex this photo attached while I was there, which he shared with everyone. Helping others was at the core of Alex's being. He thought of others before he thought of himself. He stuck up for people, especially vulnerable people or people getting a hard time. And judging by the lovely photos of him enjoying his family, he loved them all very much. A lovely man and a true gentleman, and a true Blue. RIP my friend.
