Newcastle United thread | 2025/26

Eddie Howe should be sacked from Newcastle Utd for his defensive tactics. They suit a promoted club, or a club the size of Bournemouth; they do not suit a club like Newcastle Utd who have quality players in almost every position. They are dropping points against sides in Europe and in the Premier League because of the coach's negative tactics.
There's a strange mystique around him, like everybody is happy with him, their fans, the media, the Newcastle owners. I dont understand howe's he keeps his job. I mean he isnt poor but its clear he isnt the next level they need.

He's a media darling.

Nailed on to be Engerland boss next year.

Plenty of managers who are a level higher will be available after the world cup. And Mourinho...

PEG has had his day as a top level coach, IMHO.

He’s a busted flush, whose tactics have been left behind, mainly due to the influence of the Catalan currently employed by the only club in Manchester.

He's on very thin ice going off their league position.
Finish below Sunderland and it's goodbye Eddie.
Even losing at home now to.
The owners can't be happy.

Including the home victory against the Rags and tonight's result its 4 defeats out of 5 at home.
Bye Bye Eddie if Barcelona knock you out of Europe

I think he will be given at least until the end of the season.
I’ve said this from the beginning of his appointment - he is to Newcastle what Mark Hughes was for us at the time of the two takeovers. I know we already had Hughes and they appointed Howe but Howe was never going to be the man to take them on to the next level. Of course he won the League Cup but that isn’t the next level…. You could say getting Champions League football is the next level but it has to be consistently achieved.
Who would that be that could do that and willing to go there? No idea. But it isn’t Eddie Howe

I’m not so sure that he’s not an excellent manager/coach, but as we all know, head coaches have a "shelf-life" in one job, and maybe Howe has reached his on Tyneside.

He’s done a lot better than many on here said he would, but perhaps the players - and the club - need a new leader.

I wouldn't be surprised if the owners decide to change the manager this summer. Especially so if, as most of us expect, they are knocked out of the CL. With all their investment they must surely have been expecting better this season after finally winning a trophy last year. No silverware, a mid-table finish (maybe even below the Mackems) and of course no European football to look forward to next season will not be acceptable IMHO.
