10 | Rayan Cherki - 2025/26

I know he has stuff to learn but I wince when I see this level of talent starting on the bench. His potential is possibly greater than anyone else yet we insult him by ignoring him until the regulation 60-minute mark when substitutes are permitted.

P.S. He did come on a minute early last night, to be fair.

I can sort of understand why Pep is reluctant in starting the lad since I still think he needs to improve his fitness levels to Premier League weekly standard…the very few starts he’s had not been as effective then when coming on as an impact sub & seems to be tiring when playing the full 90mins.

Mind you did well in tracking back & intercepting off Bowen late on which would have been the final nail in our coffin.

One gripe, needs to release the ball more quickly, although this could be the said the same for most of our midfielders.

Agree though with the remaining games left Pep needs release the shackles off the lad who you can really build a creative team around & more importantly he seems up for the challenge.

Sorry, on what basis is he more effective off the bench. Of the 8 PL assists he has 7 of them have been from starts. 2 of the 3 goals have been starts.

2 of his 3 CL goals: starts.

His 1 FA cup assist: start.

2 of his 3 Carabao goals: starts
1 carabao assist: start.

The reason you think he’s more impactful off the bench is probably precisely because he makes an impact.

But he isn’t “more effective” off the bench.

I'd MUCH rather have his creativity from the start and try to kill games off, rather than him getting 30 minutes or less to try and influence things.

Ah yes the stats…if you want to break them down a majority of those assists occurred in 2025.

His stats in 2026 when starting doesn’t replicate the 2025 numbers in such games as Sunderland, Chelsea, Wolves & even Spurs when we somehow managed to drop points not his fault in fairness.

When he’s come on in 2026 he has been impactful which the stats won’t necessarily show from keeping the ball & controlling possession to the ball before the assist such as the cutting throughball to RAN in our hard fought win against Leeds to the ridiculous disallowed goal at Anfield.

I do see the lad tiring when he’s playing a full game & its normal in his first year in the PL.

Don’t get me wrong, I hope he does start every game as he’s a joy to watch but he’s still a kid out of the end of the day & as a fanbase we shouldn’t be putting too much pressure on him growing & learning to eventually become a consistent superstar for us…he’s not there just yet.

If you really need to know how much he creates...he has the most assists per minutes played in the league this season. It's significantly higher than Bruno, who is easily on course to beat KDB's and Henry's record.

His assists per minute ratio is among the best in the history of the league and he's sat on the bench.

It's a fucking disgrace actually, the more you think about it.

Yet Pep seems quite happy to flog a younger player, NOR, to death

I don’t fancy Cherki with keeping the ball and doing nothing while we try to score late goals. I mean shot, cross, do something.

Pointless buying him if is going to sit on the bench in the huge games. Such a shame as he is an incredible talent.
He will wondering along with others why he’s here as every bit of his creativity will be taken out of his game until he’s just a pass pass pass merchant . Players like him don’t come around often and we should embrace him not shackle him .

Entertainment value has gone out of the window in modern football’s relentless pursuit of money.

For me, Cherki and Doku are the ones I most enjoy watching in today’s side. Fuck the stats and fuck the sytsem!
Yeah, if those 2 aren’t playing i’m usually bored shitless watching us these days
