Danny Dyer - Support your local team

People like him & Walliams just try and play the same character all the time, I suppose there are others similar such as Johnny Vagas who I do like but, in general it's just boring and in Walliams case rather creepy.

TBF I don't mind Dyer too much but stop trying to be the cockney little hard man all the time eh?
I dont think he's ever claimed to be an actor of varying roles, he plays the part he's asked to play well, we should celebrate anyone who comes from deprived areas to makes a better life for themselves whether its acting, working as a stockbroker or whatever.

His performance as Moff in Human Traffic nailed a generation.

Imo he's a genuine bloke who tells it straight.

Danny Dyer is genuine in every way. I like him and West Ham.

I wasn't born in Manchester but grew up not far away in Glossop so I do feel that passion. City chose me more than anything - it bit me and that was it for life. If my parents had stayed in the Black Country where they met I'd probably have been a Baggie though my Dad went to watch Wolves a lot when they were great in the late 50s and early 60s. If we'd stayed in West Yorks where i was born I'd like to think I'd be a Bantam...the alternative is not worth thinking of. My first memories Sheffield before we moved over I'd have been Owl or Blade - not sure which as I like both. It just so happens we moved over the hill with Dad's work and when they split up he took me to Maine Road one November Saturday....

And now I rib sheep staggers...

Does my nut in when some bloke from Uxminster (or wherever, no bias shown), shows dipper credentials,
whilst hosting a gameshow (or which-other "what not" TV format) has some cringeworthy melodramatic verbalised dislike of a randomly rag loving contestant from Slough about their "bitter" fucking "rivalry".....

"OOOOOOoooooh, Bob you've done well, but I shouldn't reeeeeeeaaaaally be wishing you well for this final, I've heard you support.......

OH, fuck off!

(Does King Danny I cover this? I hope so. I like him. Seems a genuine fella. Thought I 've have a rant myself - feel free to move to grumpy old man thread if necessary:)

I’ve mentioned this several times over the years.

I became a City fan because of Frannie, though I grew up in Cornwall.

In January 1970, the annual collection of football cards had just started. They came in packs of four (I think) with a piece of bubble gum included. I was nearly 7 1/2 at the time.

One day at school, my mates and I had the cards we’d collected so far out on the tables, and one of them said, while pointing at Francis, "He must be a good player; there are loads of him."

I soon found out that Frannie played for City. A couple of weeks later, I was watching The Big Match on Sunday afternoon, it was showing City vs. West Brom. Brian Moore, the commentator, said that the two teams were playing each other again in a few weeks in the League Cup final. City lost 0-3, and that was that.

I don’t believe it’s true that a Blue growing up in Manchester is more passionate about City than someone, who grew up hundreds of miles away, but I do think that they will have a different perspective on the hatred of the rags.

As much as I hate that lot from Trafford, I didn’t have to put up with anywhere near the level of piss-taking that Mancunian Blues had to.

Being Manc born on Horton Rd near Maine Road I can confirm I will always hate the Rags more than any other whilst I have a hole in my arse

Can’t stick the red dippers but putting up with the shit that lot from Trafford gave us their nowhere near

Fucking hell, you'd have been back in the house in time for final score!

Grew up on there me. Stadium right on the doorstep. Paradise.

I see his point entirely. I think it is possible for somebody born miles away to build that same community connection but it takes a special type of person and a lot of dedication to become as embedded as a local. You need to be physically there to create that tangible association, to know what it means and to properly be a part of it. There were no doubt fans of ours from Ireland, Scotland and further afield who were coming to watch us every week when we were playing the likes of Macclesfield and York, and fair fucks to them. I would never claim they were any less of a blue than me just because I was born 10 miles from the stadium.

But you can't just watch a few streams from thousands of miles away and expect to have that same sense of belonging.

I always say the reason City matters so much to me is because when we lose it feels like my whole family has lost. My mum and dad, my uncles and aunties, sisters, nephews, grandparents, best mates and old work colleagues... they'll all look at that scoreline and get that same sinking feeling. And when we win, they're all buzzing. That kind of tribal group mood and identity is really hard to simulate if nobody else in your life really gives a fuck.

Also - I've always rated Danny since he called out Cameron for calling the Brexit referendum and then running off to Nice to put his trotters up. Quality TV, that.
