Arsenal (N) | League Cup Final | Post Match Thread

I hope all those people championing Declan Rice as world class will realise he's just a work horse with the first touch of Fred West. And Saka is a diving cheating fraud of a footballer

One of the reasons England fall short when they finally meet a team in a tournament with a proper midfield. Rice cannot do much when he's head to head with real world class midfielders.

He's a good solid premier league midfielder. Hey he may even win a title this year, plenty of worse players have. He's not some exceptional player.

He's a trier and certainly never lets you questions his desire but lacking that cutting edge in quality to be a great midfielder.

The new Jordan Henderson.

After such a bad start the boys turned it around, everyone played their part with some rolling back the years, some showing such a bright future and some showing their usual high consistency. Brilliant to see Pep and the back room staff enjoying it so much. So happy for our travelling fans as well, what a day out it would have been.

I heard from the commentators over here that we have been in the final 10 times and won it 9. Pretty amazing record with our only defeat comeing to Wolves.
It's absolutely true. I have a photo taken of a 12 year old me,proudly wearing my City scarf, taken at Lyme Park the day after the first of our 9 League cup wins - the run beginning in March 1970 - 56 years ago. There was snow on the ground at Wembley ( the pitch was dreadful - had been used for The Horse of the Year show the previous week,Genial Joe Mercer was fuming about that): there was a full covering of snow in Lyme Park. It was a fab season 69/70- first English team to win a domestic and European trophy in the same season. The 1974 result against Wolves was a completely unexpected defeat. Then we had the unforgettable '76 victory and then the satisfaction yesterday of beating Arsenal for the second time in the League Cup final. This one is a very sweet victory, we needed a trophy and as a bonus it has stopped them winning the Quad. I also hope it has planted a seed of doubt about their ' humble' abilities for the remainder of the season. Such a pity that we dropped points in draws v them, Chavs, Spursy, Brighton, Forest and Hammers - the PL was there for the taking......

I went into this game not believing we could do it. There I said it!! But wow a great performance.

For players like Khusanov (my god I love him!), Trafford, Cherki, Semenyo, O’Reilly (imagine if he had Myles Lewis-Skelly’s press PR behind him!!) and even those that didn’t play but are now part of a squad who has lifted a trophy for the first time this is huge moving forward.

I also think that some of our best team performances have come when Trafford has started instead of Donnarumma. Will be gutted when he leaves as he is showing signs of being incredible. It’s unlikely but if we could do what Chelsea did with Courtois and send him on loan to a really big club if they are dead set on keeping Donnarumma for a few years.

So happy today. Up the blues!!!

Up there with Danny Drinkwater.

‘74 was my first visit to Wembley. Only missed 2 City appearances there since (incl. Spurs in league) and that was due to Covid regulations.

Do love a League Cup Final win. Part of me says it is a tournament that shouldn’t exist anymore but we just own it and it has brought me so much joy.

Been saying all season we avoiding press the defenders this game was the first time pep in second half just had our front four just blocking all the passes Arsenal back line could pass too we didn’t press them! This is what we should do all the time just because like I’ve been banging the drum about are so good passing around us pressing the defenders goalie!
