Arsenal (N) | League Cup Final | Post Match Thread

So many in the pre match thread claimed we would be overwhelmed in midfield and I genuinely could not see why. If you look at how both teams set up:

Rodri/Bernardo vs Rice/Zubimendi
Doku/Cherki/Semenyo vs Saka/Havertz/Trossard

+ we have Nico O'Reilly who was always going to augment our midfield more than any of their defenders would theirs.
We dominated them and you can absolutely see why after their initial press fizzled out.

I thought Rodri and Bernie were absolutely brilliant. Our four man line blocking their passing lanes out of defence a stroke of genius. Man for man we are better than them. Pep is so far ahead of Arteta in every aspect of management.
Win our league game against them + our game in hand and we are three points adrift. Its still on and maybe some other teams will have learned from their performance yesterday.
I don't know if it's just me, probably and I'm biased too.

But, I just don't see anything to fear in that Arse squad. Ok PL players who have been consistent without being under pressure.

Other teams all have 1 or 2 you would happily take and could integrate into a good side but honestly, I only see Rice who could play the Nico G role ie, understudy to Rodders, anyone else, fuck em.

This myth, perpetuated by Piers fucking Morgan ffs, saying they have the best squad in world football, completely deluded.

Nice to see there were no casualties on the Ridley's coach fire. Obviously distressing. I hope everyone is OK. Did they manage to get to the match?
On a brighter note. After an ambiguous start on the loading of the coaches leaving the Etihad yesterday, I'd like to thank the stewards and driver on Johnson's coach for a safe and comfortable journey. I fell lucky with a spanking new 7000 mile on the clock unit.
I'd wondered why we left the toll road early, only finding out on bluemoon. No interruptions, no hold ups, arrived on time there and back. A great win and good day all round.

Well since I can't comment on the Pep thread for "insufficient privileges", I'd like to say that I was happy to be proven wrong about the lineup yesterday and he got his tactics spot on.

I AM GLAD YOU BEEN BARRED FROM THERE IF YOU ARE ONE OF THESE INCESSANT WHINNERS SLAGGING THE GREATEST MANAGER EVER OFF

hope others have too

Immense team performance ! I noticed Pep had pushed Nico O further up second half and was a little worried that they might exploit the space behind but 2 goals later....... All did their job but have to give Ake a special mention as he hasn't played regularly of late and he was brilliant. Thanks for yet another trophy and more special memories. Up the fuckin Blues

Bit of a blueprint yesterday on how to nullify them , hopefully other teams take note . Rice disappears when they need him to show for the ball and create, something he constantly does for England .
Pep has added to English football, Arteta has done fuck all to enhance the game .

exactly. Rice is a good player but he is several levels below Rodri. Zubimendi I would have had but his level seems to have dropped since he joined Arsenal and Bernie at his best is in a different league. I would not swap the other three for any of theirs. They are where they are because they have a successful formulae for corners that will hopefully give them diminishing returns. Their set piece coach is their most effective player. To be honest I see nothing in the PL that worries me in the slightest if Pep can mature this current squad of players. Bernie will be hard to replace for sure.

Just as important as winning was the manner in which we did it. Arsenal have been the strongest most consistent side this season, yet we played them off the park. We are perhaps two thirds the way through the rebuild. I expect us to be excellent when we’re finished in September. More trophies to come, I’m sure.
This young side can only get better. Rodri is back as well. Next season will be a great one.

Arsenal fans sink to a new low, City fan on crutches was hit from behind by an Arsenal fan in the City section on level two on the 85th minute of the game. There had been about 5 Arsenal fans sitting in the City seats, but after getting a bit agressive late in the game they were being removed when the punch was thrown from behind, the Arsenal fan was arrested. How the Arsenal fans were in our seats needs to be investigated by the club. Also a City fan in a wheel chair was also abused by Arsenal fans, talk about sinking to a new low what were these Arsenal cowards thinking ?

It wasn't just Foden, Haaland and Donnarumma were behind the photographers telling him to do it, they were making sure they all got a moment with the fans, the trophy and the photographers to take the pics for them. Rodri was going round and making sure no one was missed too.

Foden just doesn't look to be the same player we once watched, no smile on his face, no real zest or impact on the pitch, he doesn't even look happy to be here anymore ..... I suspect that Pep maybe have some idea of what's bugging or affecting him, but I definitely haven't !

I saw an Arsenal fan say yesterday was like watching Southgate's England in a final, and it was hard to disagree. Rodri and Bernardo, neither at their peaks, are just smarter, better players.
The old school Arsenal fans I spoke to were gutted and angry at Arteta’s negative approach. If he doesn’t win the league they will turn on him. Football is expensive to watch and has to be entertainment.
