16 | Rodri 2025/26

It will be a serious fee if it happens, they paid a lot for Hazard with a year left.
Madrid sold Casemiro to the Rags for €70m at the age of 30, don’t remember him being a Balon’dor winner.

I think the solution is to let Rodri know we will let him go back to Spain but not until 2027 as we need his experience for next season since we are losing so many experienced players, but on condition that he signs an extra 1 yr so we get a fee from the tight Spaniards in 2027.

why would he (assuming he does want to go) do that, when he can leave for free next season 2027 anyway?

City are trying to tie him down to a new contract. What would you assume is the hold up?

If it is because he wants to go Madrid then he doesn’t want to be here and as Pep has said if a player wants to go they can go. Why have a player play out the last year of his contract when his mind is elsewhere.

Hopefully he signs a new contract and this is all mute.

If he wants to go he probably won’t sign an extension, but as a club you sure as hell need to make sure he leaves on some favourable terms. Letting a Balon’dor player leave for nothing when he still could play for another 5 years would be folly.

Pep may get sentimental for some players, and fans, and why would he be bothered if he leaves himself in 2027. The club still need to run the club as a business because FiFA, UEFA and the FA will be making sure we meet the financial regulations we have to meet.

How exactly are you going to do this? His contract is up next summer and we can't force him to leave before then.
For clarity, I don't think he's going anywhere and will sign a new contract with us, but...we have little/no control over getting money for him if he chooses to run down his contract.

With Kevin De Bruyne , greatest ever to put Sky Blue shirt on.

In terms of positions...
It’s already being said of Kevin that he is one of the best attacking midfielders ever, and the same will be said of Rodri.
Don’t get me wrong, Aguero might mean more to City, but in a historical context, he won’t be mentioned as the 'best ever' in the same way these two are in their respective positions

As a 29 year old, Rodri is probably just weighing up his options before committing to a new contract. It will be his last big contract in a major league. He's not ballon dor level Rodri but the amount he has improved over the last 5 or 6 games is unreal. Really hope that the club offer him a deal he wants.

Much depends on how Rodri fares in the WC. If he has a great tournament, Real may be desperate to sign him as Spain captain. But City will be desperate to keep him...

Alternatively, if he has an average tournament, then Real will cool their interest and wait to see how he performs next season.

Personally, I think he will be world-class or even the best again if he avoids another injury. His form is mostly a function of his mentality and intelligence, and he has few rivals in those aspects. He's simply extraordinary.

This from a couple of weeks ago - we've got some real thick whoppers on Blue moon.

Reactionary maybe. But there's no doubt in my eyes his best days are behind him. He's had some shocking performances this season by his old standards.
