Pre-season 2026

The counter argument to that would be that there are now more fans of City outside of the UK than there is in it.

Plenty of City fans in Asia and America who would love to watch us and their only chance is on a pre-season tournament.
Also games abroad = more shirt sales. It’s now about increasing revenues and growing the brand. Not just us but the red shirts as well.

Half the players won't have a pre-season, in 2024 it was announced "2 weeks ago", and that was a US tour which won't happen this year after the LMS.

They will be looking at a proper rest for some players as much as they can, CFG and bounce games.

Young guys will benefit from any tour. That US one had most of the veteran out or late. Was the first meaningful action for O'Reilly. Ended up starting in Community Shield.

May contain amendments and mischief.

To add to the post immediately above:

As that post sho0ws, the Inter game on 1 August in Hong Kong has been confirmed by the club. The story on the official site that's linked to the announcement taken from X refers to a men's tour of Asia of which the Hong Kong engagement is a part, so it presumably will take in other countries as well. Additional fixtures will be announced "in due course".

The 2026 Community Shield will be played on Sunday, 16 August, the weekend before the PL's due to start for 2026/27, at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff (not at Wembley). We'll see in the few weeks whether City will be in it, though we hopefully will via one route or another.

Anyway, seems safe to suppose that, when planning the remaining fixtures in Asia, we'll arrange to be back in the UK in time for that. We can then arrange a further friendly closer to home if we don't have to take part in the match in Cardiff, as we did with the Palermo game last year on the same weekend as the Community Shield.

I’d imagine that no player involved in the later stages of the World Cup will be involved in the Asia trip.

World Cup knockout round dates:
Round of 32 28/6 to 3/7
Round of 16 4/7 to 7/7
QF 9/7 to 11/7
SF 14/7 to 15/7
3/4 Place & Final 18/7 to 19/7

I've always wondered what Peps ideal pre season would be if we didn't do the commercial money generating games.
Would he play any pre season games?
Would we go to a camp abroad?
Or would we just train at the campus and just play internal games behind closed doors

I think we saw during COVID he prefers training/team bonding over pre season friendlies?

Been told he would love to go to South America and play Boca, River Plate etc but obviously there's not enough money in it compared to FE & US which he understands. I would use this as a carrot to get him to sign a contract extension!

Pre - season should be in our own back yard like it was back in the day. There’s loads of fans who can’t afford to hop on planes and watch City playing friendlies abroad. Games against local teams might not bring in the big bucks or attract foreign interest but it would allow grass roots supporters to watch their idols and open up the door for youngsters to attend the games as well.
That was when we was shite tbh.

I'd love to see us doing a South American tour.

We'd nail it and from a promotional point of view. The "brand" would go through the roof.

Us being shite didn’t mean that fans didn’t want to go to games though. And the support was local.

The difference between shite and now is that no fucker on the other side of the world cared about our club whereas now overseas support is big money.

This is why we play in Asia rather than Rochdale etc.

Scandalous to charge more than majority of Cup Final tickets to see Donnaruma and the EDS play.

Why are they offering up tickets, when we don’t know what the rest of the tour schedule includes? I’m considering it, but I wouldn’t want to be trawling half way across the world just for one game in HK.
