26 | Savinho - 2025/26

Fair play to him as when he came on he had some good runs and we needed to be direct. Because we were lacking it for so long it really stood out.

His finishing however is poor and that’s even if he takes a shot. We have players that look like they are afraid to shoot Sav being one of them.

He has a problem with finishing at MANCHESTER CITY. He didn’t have that problem at Girona. I’ve already explained in another post that his problem is a mental one. At Girona, the team played for him; he was the star and his confidence was sky-high. At City, he is just one player among many. Football is, above all, a mental game, and emotional fans often tend to forget that. In short, I have absolutely no doubt that he’ll turn it around. He’s done it before… he’ll do it again.
He wasn’t even the star. He was just more confident. Also the environment can change things. Personally think the PL might just not be for him - same as Antony who found himself again in Spain.

I'm not a foden hater but his performances have been poor for a while know yes he won big games for us .But this is a performance related business he's in his last 12 months of his contract on £225000 a week he's nearly 26 when did he last win us a huge game ? should we give him a 5 year contract and payrise because he used to win us big games ? whatever you think of savinho when he came on he played better and had more of an impact than phil i feel terrible writing this but we can all see it
Agree.

We've live in the here and now. We can't shepherd players into the squad because they might come good again.

Its not as of his form has just fell off overnight. Phil has been poor now for 18 months. Even in games he's featured in this season he's not even showed any resemblance of the player of the season version of himself.

It’s looking that way. He looks devoid of confidence too. That miss yesterday was awful

I actually like him. You can see he has the skills needed as a winger - pace, acceleration, flair. Next season will be the key to his city career, if he doesn’t kick on, I think he will be gone next summer, if he does then we have a young exciting winger who can compliment the squad.
This sums up my opinion. He desperately needs this summer to get a break, reset his mentality and confidence, then come back with some fire in his belly.

Doing what Semenyo does each summer with finishing sessions would be a great place for him to start.

He makes a positive difference when he comes on and there's loads for the coaches to work with.

Don’t kill me but he may be Jesus Navas.

By that I mean useless as an attacker but could still have a spot…
Did you see how many times Navas used to beat his man & put a decent cross in? Its a bit of a myth that he couldn't attack. One season with City he created the most goalscoring opportunities in the Premier League its just nobody was taking them. The amount of times he put crosses in & Dzeko was just stood there doing nothing was ridiculous.

People just expected more from him because of how fast he was.

Yep.

He was very good. He did hit his first man too many times, but that team from the back end of 2014-2016 were regressing in all forms of play on the whole under Pellegrini and we had Bony, Dzeko who had given up, a rather passive force of Fernando, Garcia and a declining Yaya as regulars in our team.

Only De Bruyne, Silva and Aguero offered decent movement at times, and even Silva had his worst season for us 2015/16 as he was constantly playing through ankle pain.

I just wish he would put his foot through the ball when he shoots!

The biggest flaw he has and I've been saying it since he arrived is his timing of when to release the ball. Either too soon or too late.

He does certain things well and then he always seems to release the ball at the wrong time, often a split second too late and ends up with bodies in the way. Actually Doku was similar but improved in his department, so maybe this lad can too.

Seems indecisive once he's done some good work and needs to make a decision. I think that also why he shoots like a fanny rather than just give it a bit of welly.

Let's see. Hope he kicks on because I think he's capable. Just want to see him be a bit braver and more instinctive.

Has pace and a fair bit of flair, can hold onto the ball well too. An ok option to run the ball into the corner and keep hold of it. That’s where it ends though, there’s been zero improvement in his 2 years with us, he can’t shoot, is poor at crossing and is the biggest fanny to ever play the game. He’d pull out of a tackle that was 90/10 in his favour. Add to that his rolling around and faking injury and it’s a huge no from me.

He's got some ability but his attitude isn’t right. He thinks he’s Neymar (who was a proper ****), in reality he’s never, ever going to realise the potential we thought he had.

Who the fuck sanctioned a 6 year contract extension last summer is definitely seeing something I’m not. I don’t dislike him, I just don’t think he’s very good at football.

If he hasn't practised it already (and finishing at all) then it's just not going to happen for him. We've not seen any improvement in 2 seasons.
The pin can drops for him at any time. Defenders are giving him the inside, either coz they are scared of his suddeness when he bursts to the byline or they don't rate the danger when he cuts inside... Whichever one it is he jas to develop that shot to unlock another level to his game.

He needs to get a personal coach and work on his shooting at the end of training sessions, like Ousmane Dembélé did. Before, his shots were either going into the stands or straight at the goalkeeper. Since hiring a personal coach to work on this aspect, he has become a different player in terms of finishing, which earned him a Ballon d'Or.

His main issue is the same as Foden's: no confidence.

Looked brilliant at Newcastle, Pep rewarded his performance with a start at Real. He disappeared at the Bernabeu and hasn't started since then.
