Injuries 2025/26 | Rodri back in “partial” training

I think when Gvardiol is fully recovered we could well see O'Reilly moved into midfield with Gvardiol at left back maybe?

Nunes...Khusanov...Guehi...Gvardiol...

................Rodri.........O'Reilly.................

Not sure NOR is good enough in midfield yet, IMO anyway. Seems to be on the outskirts of the game when he’s in there (aside from Newcastle at home where he was fantastic) whereas he’s fantastic as left back.

Regardless, if Gvardiol is fit then he should start - same as somebody like Rodri or Haaland - so who makes way, I’m not sure.

Much more balanced than NOR playing CF from LB. And think both Khusa and Josko need a leader next to them, which Guehi is. Worth a trial at least

If Donnarumma; Nunes Khusanov Guehi O'Reilly; Gonzalez Bernardo Semenyo Cherki Doku; Haaland isn't enough to beat Brentford at home it won't be Rodri's absence that caused it.
Brentford who will do exactly what Everton did and bully our central core.

You're not far off from my assessment that City haven't really been a top team since the treble season.

In 2023-24 we did win the league but anyone could see Rodri and Phil's form covered over a lot of cracks which became evident when their form dropped.

And honestly we have no business being in a title race this year.. Rodri coming back covered over the cracks again but when he's not there.. the cracks become chasms.

To have a sustained title winning side, we need to get the incomings and outgoings correct.
In 2023 you didn’t see a top team. You witnessed historical greatness.

This City team is a top team.

This is exactly the set up I’d have next season.

This City team is a top team.

Giving 4 points to Spurs which saves them from relegation.
Giving 4 points to Brighton.
Giving up leads in second halves.
Not being able to pass our way out of trouble.
Having what feels like no midfield at times where other teams slice us open.
And not being able to get the ball through to our striker.

I disagree with you on your statement but I think with the right tinkering we're not far off!

Winning the League Cup beating Arsenal
In the Final of The FA Cup
Second in the PL easily the hardest league in the World..outside chance of winning it.

That’s my definition of a top team that is not a historical great.

If City’s 2023 team is just “top” then you are spoilt!

All about semantics I guess.

Just when I thought I was out…

Just realised he said this season and not tomorrow! Not overly promising…

I think we’ll get by against Palace without him, but we absolutely need Rodri back for the Chelsea, Bournemouth and Villa games.

Hopefully Rodri can be fit for the final. To have Dias and Guardiola back is a huge boost too. Gives us so much quality and so many options on the bench as well. If O'Reilly is tired, having Gvardiol come on is a huge improvement. Same at CB if we need Stones, Ake or Dias to cover for Guehi/Khus - or Gvardiol of course.

Rodri being fit for the final gives us one hell of a squad for it.
