42 | Antoine Semenyo - 2025/26

We tried that a couple of months ago and looked awful. We need one striker and width.
Really?

Last season was saved with the 4222.

Doku and Cherki with 2 strikers ahead was also cooking this season

You'll always find 1 off examples, but mostly I think 4222 and 4321 has been quite good.

Last season was saved because of Nico G coming in and Kovacic picking up form to cover for Rodri.

We genuinely played a narrow formation with Haaland and Semenyo a number of weeks ago, for a few weeks, our form fell off a cliff and we looked terrible. When Doku returned, Pep reverted back to Doku and Semenyo playing as actually wingers and our form has significantly improved since.

We are unbeaten in the past 10 games since March 22nd, so not sure what you mean last few weeks, since the 424 was the formation we used during this time, and has been working lately but showing its cracks.

Last season absolutely was saved by the 4222, personnel aside, the formation worked and was working this season as well.

The were undefeated this season with the 4222/4321 as well for many weeks.

Dunno, we can disagree here, but I massively won't agree with you.

These players are tailor suited to a 2 striker system with creativity out wide.

Might have to watch it again but did he basically dribble the ball off the pitch last night because his touch was that bad?

He was chasing after the ball like a dog with a balloon last night, horrendous.

His “superpower” is straight line running and being able to shoot with either foot. I thought Dzeko had the worst first touch in top level football for a City player, but AS has surpassed him this season, with one glaring exception, of course.

Good thing is, he seems like a good lad who will buckle down and learn, so there’s hope!

Just a steady player that shouldn't be playing week in and week out for us, and thats fine

One of the key differences between us and the top European sides, is that we still don't have a deadly, clinical winger

Hopefully Doku is getting there, but we need one on each side

Surely we want someone central with a bit more technique and a capability to play intricate passes, someone like Semenyo is the least I would want there.
absolutely, need to find a great right winger and let Semenyo be a second choice striker or right winger.

I thought the 'get him near Haaland' was hint enough that I didn't mean midfield, but to clarify - he should be drifting inside so he is near Haaaland rather than providing width. In no way am I advocating him as a midfielder

I think he will be great 3+1 player in future seasons but for me he is not good enough for the starting 11...

Should become our new Gabriel Jesus.
Can play and cover for LW, RW and CF. That goal against Chelsea highlighted his abilities more as a centre forward, rather than winger.

We need someone like Doku on that RW position to be a regular starter.

Erling Haaland → 37 goals + 8 assists, 1.02 goal contributions per 90 minutes

Rayan Cherki → 10 goals + 14 assists, 0.8 goal contributions per 90 minutes
Jérémy Doku → 8 goals + 14 assists, 0.7 goal contributions per 90 minutes

Omar Marmoush → 7 goals + 3 assists, 0.7 goal contributions per 90 minutes

Antoine Semenyo → 8 goals + 3 assists, 0.5 goal contributions per 90 minutes
Phil Foden → 10 goals + 5 assists, 0.5 goal contributions per 90 minutes
Tijjani Reijnders → 7 goals + 8 assists, 0.5 goal contributions per 90 minutes

Sávio → 3 goals + 3 assists, 0.4 goal contributions per 90 minutes

0.5 goal contributions per 90 minutes isn't enough.
