I’ve never understood these extreme Manc accents.

Liam Gallagher is the same. The guy grew up in Burnage ffs, which isn’t even really rough, and has spent his entire adult life living in posh London suburbs.

Nobody from Manchester sounds like that.

There’s a Manchester poet called Mike Garry who - while his poetry really is wonderful - puts on the same swaggery Manc comedy voice when he performs.

Soccer AM were bang on with the ‘Stereotypical Manc’ sketch!
I take it you weren't brought up in Burnage. It was a sprawling council estate and there were plenty of real hard cases around - and loads of blues.

When I went to Burnage Grammar in the 60s it was a very desirable middle class suburb.
Now of course it is an utter shithole that you drive through with car doors locked.

I don't think Liam's accent is anywhere near as extreme as that wanker Terry Christian's. That's as put on an accent as you're ever going to get IMO.

Behave yourself. I lived in Burnage from 1968 until 1981. It was a decent place to live, with few or no 'trouble' areas. In fact, many of the South Manchester suburbs were quite 'genteel'.
The Gallaghers 'lairy' / tough guy reputations are largely media and record label exaggeration. Just local scallies, blagging their way through life, just like any gang of local lads.

christians not very happy with blues calling him a professional manc on about the 2 hour .2 mark on this video

My Great Granny lived in Burnage, down Greenend Road. It wasn't proper posh, but it certainly wasn't rough. 2 Busses to get there from Woodhouse Park. You had to change busses on Princess Road by Southern Cemetery.

He's such an annoying slimy little twat! I used to be a Messenger boy at the Evening news when he worked for them. He'd say 'My dear boy, run along and grab me a coffee from the machine, it was 8p and he used to give me 10p and say keep the change. I always made a point of taking his 2p back because I didn't want anything from the fake fucker. I wonder if he ever knew I grobbed in his coffee every morning ? And you really don't want to know what I put on the posh buttys he used to buy from Philpots! :)

If we're nominating professional Mancs, can I start a thread on professional scousers!
First two are John Peel and John Lennon, who both changed their grammar school posh boy accents for West Lancashire dolphin
As Ken Dodd said about Lennon, they named the airport after him because that was the first place he headed to when he made a few quid !

Werent they brought in longsight initially anyway ?

Noel (born 1967) and younger brother Liam were both born in Longsight, the family lived at Sandycroft Street, Longsight (now demolished) ... however shortly after Liam was born in 1972 the family moved to Burnage.

I used to drink with their dad on occasion in the Bay Horse, Longsight, he had decided that he was gonna favour city in order to piss off his brothers (who supported the rags), but he never really grew an affinity for the club in the way that Noel and Liam did.
