I was on holiday in Florida in 2003, we were at a coffee stall and the owner noticed my youngest son in city gear. He had different club pendants on the wall.and pointed out the Manchester City one He said he followed Inter Milan but said few weeks before Kevin Keegan was stood In the queue waiting to be served. He asked him to stand to one side and had an enjoyable conversation with him about football. The stall owner commented on what a gentleman he was. He said a couple of weeks later , he then reached under the counter, a number of signed memorabilia arrived in the post. He couldn't believe that Kevin had taken time out of a busy pre season schedule to send him this.Pretty sure I've told this story on here before but seems appropriate to tell it again:
About 10 years ago I was working in Hale and often used to see KK walking around, one day the lady who worked in the shop next door to me said he'd gone in there and she'd never met him before, she told him that her friend was a massive Newcastle fan and idolised him and would be so jealous that she'd met him. So he went back in that shop later that day with a load of signed Newcastle memorabilia and said "please give these to your friend".
Round about the same time I bumped into him and got chatting, I was very starstruck but he came across an absolute gentleman, I said "anytime you want to come back and manage City you're more than welcome" he laughed and said "oh you won't be needing me when Pep comes!"
I love the fact that so many of us have got stories about meeting him and they're all so heartwarming, one of the few people in the game who is universally loved and respected by everyone no matter who you support.
One of the nicest men I've ever met in my life.
A lovely post. Best wishes for your health. I have had surgery for three different unrelated cancers. Still standing after 15 years. Im sure you will keep going. Kevin is loved everywhere he has been. Never forgot our trip to Hamburg to open their new stadium. He is a God to their fans after winning the Ballon d’or there. He was a truly fantastic player.I was on holiday in Florida in 2003, we were at a coffee stall and the owner noticed my youngest son in city gear. I was diagnosed with cancer in March 2025 and though given the all clear after chemotherapy I've recently been given a diagnosis whereby it could be cancer in another area of my body so I can emphasise with the great guy Kevin Keegan.

This pic was taken Aug 2002 vs Everton at Maine Road. My Dad was friends with Buzzer and just before kick off he saw me and my daughter, and asked if we'd like a quick picture with KK. It was literally 1 minute before KO. Buzzer grabbed him and KK trotted over. Really engaged with my daughter, to the extent that Asa Hartford had to shout over "gaffer the games started". He had every excuse to decline the pic, but didn't, which is a measure of the man.
Scroll forward to last Friday night, some 24 years later. Despite her autism, my daughter is now working for a PR/Memorabilia firm and KK is one of their clients. She had only ever met him once, at 2 years old, in 2002. She would never associate a name to a famous face, so working with some guy called Kevin Keegan probably didn't register with her. But she recognised his face when introduced, immediately pulled up the piccie and proudly showed it Kev, reminding him he got told off for missing kick-off. Sharp as a tack, and bearing in mind the thousands of pics the man has had taken over the years, he laughed and said "yes, and totally the fault of a certain Mr Summerbee, if memory serves".

Absolute giant of a man, who will fight to the end, as he did on the pitch.

You seriously think they waited for Keegan's news to come out, so that they could steal the headlines with Dalglish's news?Kenny D, how it came out.
