Elliot Anderson | Opening bid rejected (p189)

The swathes of folks here saying "he's not worth it" are what I'm referencing.
Hardly the same is it? Its potentially the biggest fee of all time, to think someone with so little experience isnt worth it is hardly the same as saying he is rubbish? I think hes a really good player, with huge potential that id like to sign but i dont think hes worth a record transfer fee given his lack of experience. I dont think im being too harsh? He has two seasons in the prem playing centre midfielder, a handful of england games there against mediocre opponents, no domestic medals, no champions league experience, no title race experience, no experience in playing in the big games where the pressure is relentless. Its not his fault he doesnt have that experience but if it was my money (and it isnt so i mostly dont give a fk) id want more for my money. U are paying end product money for a player who is potential. People compare to Rice when arsenal bought him but in fairness to Rice he had years of prem experience, hed just won the europa league as captain, played in finals and semi finals of major international competitions….and even then at the time most considered it overpriced. Since then hes done well but he just got ran than through by actual world class centre mids in the cl final.

I think 230-250 million is the going rate to replace a particular position in this current market. Rags wanted to renew their attack and costed them some quick 200 for Sesko Cunha and Mbembo. Liverpool attack is what 300 million worth. Even their defence is hitting some cool 200 mil after Kerkez that lad from Leverkusen and Jeremy Jaquet.

So City shouldnt hesitate to spend that much imho. 120 for Anderson another 85 for Tonali/Wharton should not be a problem.

I think it's just negotiation tactics. I just can't see us pulling out of the deal for Anderson, we would've known he'd be expensive also who we would be dealing with, we've put out to press that's he's the number one option we want, I just don't see us pulling out. Khaldoon is involved if you go by Ornsstein, this gets done for, 120 million. Marinakas gets his record fee , player gets the move City get their number one target.

By all accounts we're the only show in town for Anderson, so I find it hard to believe we'll pay £120m for him. If Forest really want to blow up the deal then we've shown time and time again we'll walk away. That is what allows us to get value in the market. That's how we operate. We never knowingly overpay.

Reckon it gets done at around Rice money or it doesn't get done. I much prefer Anderson to the likes of Tonali so I'm hopeful.

Where the hell does this desperation to sign Anderson come from? Seems like a decent player but nothing special. What am I missing?

His stats are out of this world. He basically performed best in almost every metric for midfielders in the Premier League last season, despite playing in a side which went through 4 managers.

By all accounts City have had the player boxed off for months now. Just need to agree a fee.

I don't get the arguement that a player is too expensive. I think everyone on here can agree he will be a success at city. The way to think of it is spend 105-110 million now and that's it for at least 5 years or gamble on a 60m pound player who could flop and we just buy again and then in the end the fee is the same but the outcome is we have a weaker player.

Appreciate this isn't the most important factor when signing a player, but I'm a fan of the way Elliott Anderson looks like a proper old-fashioned footballer, who wouldn't look out of place photoshopped into the team pictures of the 1960s along Bell, Lee, Summerbee et al. In fact he reminds me of a modern day version of Tony Book.
Ha, I said something similar to a mate recently. He does look like he's from a different era.

Anyone reporting that a player "only" wants a certain club is reporting BS. What they actually mean is that the player prefer a move to said club from the offers he currently has at his disposal or realistically can expect to get.
If another club offers 10x more than another, of course any player would view that bid with an open mind. To suggest anything else is just silly.
Maybe ten times wage to him which will not happen, not fee to his club. I stand by what I said.

If there is any chance of Rodri going this summer or next then we should get Anderson and Tonali now?
my thoughts exactly and by the way rodri is talking i can't see him renewing. can't see the club been this far into a deal for a players and then backing out. this is nothing like the rice deal i don't remember us been all in like we have been off anderson
