Makerfield By - Election. Burnham v Reform

Jake Austin (the Lib Dem guy) is one of my best mates in the world. We've known each other for 13 years now after meeting at Salford Uni. He spoke at my wedding and was basically mine and my wife's joint best man. The last few weeks have been utterly surreal - phone calls with Carol Vorderman, chats with Ed Davey, interviews with Beth Rigby, now Question Time to a national audience. Hope it's the start of a bright future in politics for him.
He seems a genuine person, shame people like him only get a say when the party needs it.

Well that was pretty depressing.
Pretty much, if you are expecting anything other than people telling you what they won’t do, rather than what they can. Too busy awaiting the attack than getting their points across.

I look to the media and their 24 hr need to keep people engaged, it means that politicians, of all walks, are under pressure to give an answer to a loaded question, instead of just answering honestly.

Things have massively changed since I first got an interest in politics, where politicians were able to answer questions in calm but pressurised situation, as they were allowed to answer the questions given. Now, they don’t have time as the interviewer forces the issue.

Saw his (albeit short) interview on Sky earlier today and he came across very well.

It's encouraging I suppose that Kenyon is the best Reform can come up with, suggests very shallow pool.

When the General election comes round how will Reform find a few hundred more they can stand across the country? This guy in Makerfield and the guy they stood in the Gorton election is the best they could muster up for two seats. Completely out of their depth, dislikable twats.

Their growth as a party as with Rupert Lowe’s mob has been through people getting sent down the conspiracy rabbit hole on social media. Reformer’s seem to spend all their time writing racist rhetoric on comment sections online, which when it comes round to any of them potentially standing in any type of council or general election. All the press or opposition parties have to do is go through their historic social media posts to start digging up the muck.

That's certainly the way they operate but Kenyon is a a real downgrade on their Gorton woman, she could a least string a few words together, pretty bad though. The Tory and Liberal reps last night were almost Churchillian by comparison with Reform's pick.
