I am so happy with how Ståle Solbakken is treating Erling. The warnings were there from T. Henry when he spoke about expectations of being the "main man" all the time. You have to be prepared, he said. The gist of it is that it leans more towards mental targets, when it comes to being prepared. You could not have any more than maybe 40 events to prepare for as a "cup final" over a year. In addition physical fatigue comes in to play when playing twice a week. If you stretch your physicality, it takes 48-72 hours for muscle fibres to rebuild for example. And you need to train on a lot of things as well to improve.
The treatment at the national team right now is optimal I would say - drop the high profile friendly against Sweden, a physical test against Morroco and full focus towards the 3 important games. Good management.
Without being very biased about Norway's chances in this world cup - I think this could go very well. The odd mistake here and there could cost us against the best nations, but I do not think the fragility will be there anymore. At least not to a large extent. The confidence is high due to the "we know what we can do" factor. Maybe a defeat in a potential quarter final or semi final due to the pressure, heat and the defence not being up for it; not a certainty though. It is simply too good of a squad tied together over a number of years under Ståle Solbakken to do poorly. They will play like a close knitted club team over this world cup. Solbakken made sure of it by selecting a core group of players over and over again. And that is a competitive advantage in its own.
What they say about Haaland is that he is very turned on and competitive when he does something. He likes football to be about winning small exercises or large competitions. So he needs to turn off when the time is right. And he is very likeable, funny and positive most of the time. Competitive, bordering arrogant. He is proud and seeks revenge when things go wrong.
The relevance for City in case of success - it would be the increased stature of Haaland as a front figure for the club. It could happen!
