Enzo Maresca

As many will know I am a Chelsea supporter who has a ST so go to games and mix with significant other supporters of the club.

I genuinely can tell you that his style of football was dire. His obsession with passing across the backline often using the keeper wasn’t anything other than a bore fest.
Meresca likens football to a game of Chess. I play a lot of chess sadly his wasn’t a game of speed chess it was a game where the next move would take ages in the delivery.

If you go back to his time at Leicester although he got them promoted the supporters there had no regrets when he left. They pointed to the quality of the squad in terms of being head and shoulders above other championship contenders and the fact they eventually stumbled over the line. They had a terrible run toward the end of the season and it was claimed that was because other teams simply set a low block.

The fan you spoke to was 100% right when he talked about no plan b and whilst to a degree he was restricted when it came to substitutions he didn’t bring on players who the crowd were calling for.

For instance we have a player called Josh Acheapong who can play anywhere accross the backline. He is going to be a top player and every time you do see him you wonder why he wasn’t the obvious choice when late into a game Meresca bought off one of the back 4 he simply went for the likes of Tosin or Badisallie who were not close in terms of ability, tactical awareness or speed.
That's pretty much what i've heard from various Chelsea fans i've spoken to, none were particularly impressed with him.
Hopefully it'll be different at City, we're not quite the basket case that Chelsea were/are

Not really.

Yes the second is very likely true, and the vague reports seem to have something in them.

Doesn't mean that is the reason though for 'the delay', could be any of a number of things, each guess as valid as any. If indeed there even is, a 'delay'.

This time 10 years ago we were still a month away from formally appointing Pep. 13 years ago, we hadn't yet appointed Pellegrini at this stage.

In Khaldoon's interview, he noted the nee manager will be announced very soon, and he was absolutely calm and confident about it. Which usually transpired that the club knew what they were doing all along.
However you want to put it, I believe the appointment of Maresca is with the lawyers. How you describe that is semantics. It's Khaldoon's job to look calm and assured. That doesn't mean he is always in control of events.

What happened in the final against psg then? That wasn’t boring football

How's it worked out for you since he left?

He'll be working with a much better squad here.
Well as hes explaining its how his teams play. Doesnt matter what quality of squad he had if hes making them play a borefest game of chess. We shouldn't dismiss a chelsea fans opinion as he will know a hell of a lot more us

Had spells as assistant manager at Sevilla and WHU

Yep, and quite a few more clubs besides!

But we can only trust Citys judgement ...... some Chelsea fans make out that his style of football is more or less the same as Peps, possession, sideways passing , backwards passing, using the keeper, so we'll just have to wait and see ..... one thing's for sure, Peps trophy haul is a hard act to follow, even for someone with more 'credentials' than Maresca.

Agreed ..... we'll just have to wait and see what he brings to our table .... we have to bear in mind that a lot of people called our football 'boring' and 'like watching chess' under Pep, even though we usually managed to score more goals, and win more games than anyone else !!

I mean what else do you expect them to say. He won Confrence League, Club World Cup & managed a 4th place with a fairly mediocre squad. Chelsea before & after him with almost the same squad couldn't even crack 4th place in the PL. He provided stability to a wildly volatile club in his time there. If their fans can't acknowledge that then that's a lack of gratitude on their part.

City is different, the leadership is much more stable, the players vastly superior and much more suited to the controlled possession style of play. I don't know whether he will be a success here but one thing I am entirely sure of is the fact that I will be 100% in his corner once he gets appointed here. Let's give him the chance he deserves and he may surprise a lot of people.

Your views do tally with what I know of Leicester fans opinions of his time there.

Our fans may be more inured of his style of play following 10 years of Pep (particularly the last 3 where it did become more stale), but we shall see.

I suspect matches against the top sides will be okay, but we'll be more likely to drop points to the sides at the bottom.

I have total faith that those running our club will get the transition right into post Pep life (hard to type that), but I hope we can crack on and announce Maresca shortly.

There's now been a decent amount of time for the dust to settle on Pep's goodbye and we need to demonstrate a stable and cohesive impression again. The Real Madrid freak show and names of our players being thrown around don't help us at the moment, because for the first time in a long time there is uncertainty and potentially vulnerability.

Announcing Marseca and hopefully confirming Anderson before the World Cup would be a great signal of intent and hopefully wade off the vultures that are circling.

We weren't exactly struggling before Pep came, but undoubtedly he leaves us in a far stronger position, truly established as a force on the biggest stage. Now we need to make sure that's where we stay. He always spoke about ''being there" as his biggest achievement and remaining competitive has to be the priority. Any trophies that come in the next season or so would be a big bonus.

His tactics seemed to work just fine in the CWC..

Decent amount of time for the dust to settle? What, about a week and a half? I'm still balling my eyes out.

The car crash that is Chelsea were 3rd when Maresca left - they finished mid table.

All this didn’t like the style of play nonsense from the Chelsea idiots that for some reason lurk on here is garbage.
