Elliot Anderson | Opening bid rejected (p189)

Villa fans, Newcastle fans etc blame the buying club for distorting the market. They never look at their shit stain clubs demanding that money, then wonder why they can't buy any decent players themselves! Probably because the next club know you've just demanded £100m for a player, so why wouldn't they do the same to you?

To be fair, money in football nowadays is ridiculous in terms of winnings - cup rounds, cup qualification, European qualification etc. - so clubs with sought-after players will value (rightly IMO) their prized assets even higher because without them, their chances of higher earnings reduce.

Also factoring in how much they'd need to spend to replace the player they're letting go.

Plus Forest took a bit of a punt (£40m) on Anderson and have made him progress fantastically since signing him so deserve to ask for what they see fit. West Ham are doing similar with Fernandes.

It's like us when selling Gvardiol if he goes, we paid a massive fee at outset, have made him a better player and have him under contract and we'd be fuming if we didn't sell him for what we deemed to be his market value compared to others in his position.

Though I agree with your sentiment on how clubs shouldn't be shocked when they're asked to pay similar fees. Can't have it one way and not the other, as some seem to want!!

missed the boat with Neves who went to PSG.
Ray, last I checked, when we had the chance to sign him, you were one of the people saying he wasn't good enough for us. You questioned his quality, doubted whether he could make the step up, and dismissed the idea that he could become the player he is today.

Funny how things change. Now that he's proving himself at the highest level and showing exactly why some of us rated him so highly, the reality is becoming impossible to ignore. I guess you're finally starting to see what others saw long ago—that you were completely wrong about him.

120 million for Anderson is fucking insane. 50 million and take the chance he can make the step up, maybe. But 120 million is world class finished article money and he definitely isn't that.
I agree, I just dont see it with Anderson, very average player.
Hope Im wrong.

There’s plenty of evidence he’s good enough to play in one of those midfields. He’s obviously not prime KDB or Rodri level but Anderson now, would have regularly played for City in 2021-2024. He’s absolutely mint.
I agree. I can see the argument that he is not an elite layer like KDB, but if he signed he would significantly improve City imo. He's still young too.

I have been waiting for news of a 2nd bid but all seems quiet at the moment. I think at some point soon the shutters will come down on transfers involving players at the World Cup because of the distraction to the national teams.

Exactly, the point I made was he’d have featured. He wouldn’t have been our best midfielder but he’d have played the Gundogan, Bernado, Foden role in rotation, if he had been there instead of one of those.

He’s a only going to get better too

Ray got pumped.

Enzo Fernandez, Rice and Caicedo all transferred for around £100m
The football genius Pogbad went to the Rags for £93m ten year ago !!! But only City distort the market.
If we think Anderson is around the level of the first three mentioned then £100m seems to be the going rate in the PL.
Agreed. Not coming out of our pockets and the lad looks to have everything we need. Pay up and lets get back ontop!
