Khaldoon's end of season interview | Pt 1 (p3) | Pt 2 (p12)

I would definitely agree with the sentiment that it’ll be harder to ever replace Pep Guardiola - a genuine genius and one-off of a football manager and possibly the greatest ever - than Khaldoon in his role as Chairman.

But that’s only because Khaldoon is so ridiculously overqualified to be Chairman of our football club it’s laughable. We are so lucky to have him, and so grateful he has been so committed and passionate about the cause for the best part of two decades. If I was him running all his other business and diplomatic activity and the consequences of his decisions, I’d be having a lie down in a dark room or on a beach in any spare time I possibly had. Not fucking schlepping it over to rainy Manchester every week.

Self-promotion is a terrible look

So I will do it for you. These are the best and most informative posts on the forum since I have been here.

Anyone doubting who Khaldoon is and how important he is to the club should read them all ten or twenty times.

I've learned a lot on legal issues from @slbsn and a few others (you know who you are) over the years and I have shared the occasional accounting thought with @Prestwich_Blue but these posts (and a few older ones, iirc) just stand out so far from the rest.

Everyone should take the time to read them.

Edit - PS: Will you sleep with me now?

I think, especially after watching part 2, that what virtually all journalists and rival fans (and even a few on here) don’t quite ‘get’ is that City aren’t run like any other football club in world football.
Football, naturally enough given the emotion it engenders in everyone, has always been run on the basis of “what will win us our next game/ what will get us through to the end of the season”. Our owners have never taken that view. From day one it has always been a seriously long term view, decades into the future.

Football, particularly English football, just did not recognise that level of forward thinking. This country had fallen into the trap, for many years, of believing that football was always going to be a fait accompli. One of United, Liverpool, Arsenal, and at a pinch Chelsea, were always going to win the biggest prizes. For sure there may occasionally be a bone thrown to the masses with a FA cup/league cup shock - it keeps them coming back - but ultimately the game was sewn up for the Sky four.
And as an industry, this was not just accepted, but celebrated. There just wasn’t the ability to imagine an outsider with the wherewithal to hijack this cosy little club. And when City came along not only was this NOT celebrated, it was dismissed. And then targeted. And they’ve been trying to destroy us ever since. Everyone involved in any capacity with the game in this country, fans, owners, media, journalists, everyone, simply did not and still does not, have the mental capacity to understand that City weren’t just trying to win a league or two, they are purposely disrupting the game.
This lack of understanding lead directly to the charges. From the PL, they are simply a case of “kill them. Literally kill this football club. We cannot allow the also rans to be given ideas above the station we have given them.”
From everyone else, lead by the hateful English media, it isnt jealousy, or embedded fans of United/other clubs, it is simple ignorance of what HHSM is building. They just don’t understand the concept of building a football club from the ground up with a view that stretches 30 or 40 years into the distance. Because that’s never been done in the modern game.
Clubs and fans have been conditioned to accept that if they’re not one of the “big four” ( remember that term?) then their role is to be grateful for the odd point at old Trafford/anfield, and back home on the coach you go. See you next year.
And like sufferers of Stockholm syndrome they have embraced it. So much so that instead of looking at City and thinking “we could do with owners like that” they look at City and think “we need to get rid of these, they’re ruining the game”. The game that gave them fuck all and patted them on the head every season as one of the originals hoovered up most of the trophies and almost all the money.

We won’t change their minds in my lifetime, it will take decades.
So instead we’ll get to watch them torture themselves in Plymouth, derby, Middlesbrough, Ipswich et al as we continue to grow. And fuck them. I despise the also rans more than I do “the big four”. Because I despise rank stupidity.

Oh, and anyone watching part two who still has ANY doubt that we have/are going to shortly, win the charges case, watch it again. Does anybody seriously think this man and the men he represents has had any need or desire to act in a grubby manner? It’s more simple than that. He’s been operating far beyond their level of knowledge for years now and because they cannot fathom how a club like city could grow so far and so fast they have fallen back on the old comfort blanket “they must have cheated”. Because the truth is even more terrifying for them. “They’re cleverer than we thought and they decided they weren’t going to settle for the odd crumb”

Fuck them all. I can’t wait for the announcement day.
Great post that, mate.

Its almost like you don't want to understand.

There aren't 10 more like him waiting in the wings, there aren't any like him. He's the owners No1 man and been a member of the Executive Council (thats not a company board of directors) since 2006. Hes held this position for over 20 years, there isn't a queue behind him.

He is the man who meets & greets presidents and Kings and Premiers of countries visiting the UAE and Abu Dhabi. He is the Sheikhs front man his go between, his link to the outside world. As managing director of Mubadala Investment Company (385 Billion in assets) he makes that yank lickspittle Jared Kushner look like a pauper in charge of a corner shop. The combined cash at bank value for all businesses where KHALDOON holds a current appointment equals £564.62M, a combined total current assets value of £5.14B

In 2007, Al Mubarak was made Commander of the Star of the Order of the Italian Solidarity for supporting the "economic relationship" between Italy and the UAE. In 2013, he was made an honorary Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) and received the Grand Gwanghwa Medal, the highest class of the South Korean Order of Diplomatic Service Merit. Al Mubarak is a recipient of the Asian Business Leadership Forum's (ABLF) Award in 2016. He was named as one of the 100 world's most influential and powerful Arabs in 2017 and 2018 by Arabian Business.

2nd time you have literally copy and pasted Khaldoons Wikipedia at me, I never said he wasn't decorated or qualified so not sure what your point is. I just said Pep would be a bigger miss than Khaldoon if he were to leave and no financial figures or boards of Emirati institutions the guy sits on will change my opinion.

All it says to me is this guy must be incredibly busy and not have much time to spend on City and all decisions on the everyday running of the club, other than major appointments such as Viana, possibly Enzo are delegated down the chain of command.

He isn't some infallible superhero, how's his board of Peace with Trump going?

Am I the only one on here that doesn't like this post ? And do you know why? BECAUSE I FUCKIN LOVE IT! Tikka boo son. Fantastic post.

My point is that many underestimate who Khaldoon actually is. He's more powerful than Sheikh Mansour in real terms.

If we were to put it into Godfather film terms, he's Tom Hagen. He is not Corleone blood but he is the man trained from birth and grew up as part of the family. He is friends with Fredo and will front his businesses but he works for Vito. It's like saying "well I'm sure Fredo knows a lot of other capable people". Ok, who? That short bald Italian bloke who gets drunk? The fat bloke who rehearses his lines?

Tom was the non-Italian who could talk to non-Italians. Similarly, Sheikh Mansour is the diplomat you want with Arab nations but Khaldoon is who they send to talk business behind the photo opportunities with China, US, etc. He's their guy. Nobody like Khaldoon exists in the UAE power structures. He reports to MBZ, not Sheikh Mansour.

He's not just a decent executive, he's basically the most powerful man (in terms of REAL and not INHERITED power) in the entire country.

Hopefully he can manage to navigate the intellectual heavyweights of Richard Masters and Alisson Brittan to see us through this
The one thing that springs to mind when you keep saying he is MBZ's guy and not Mansoor's, is the fact that it gives the owned by a state crew a legitment moment to believe we are indeed state owned.

They have the UAE most valuable diplomat as chairmen, they have to be state owned.

It is better to be state owned than United States owned. The later are hell bent on destroying the game we all love.

If Khaldoon is this important we better hope he doesn’t lose any more weight and pass away.

khaldoon isn't going to step down.
he's not going anywhere,
so any talk of it really doesn't matter either way.

he fucking loves it/us.

we are, at worst, his hobby.
at best, the thing that makes him happy outwith his daily pressures.

10 billion ? That's some hobby.

'10 Billion'.....

Cold that one Khaldoon.
I fucking love our club.

'We are only just beginning'.....

All the negative nellies be on here saying 'nobody knows the result of.the Commisions hearing'...

I'd have a tenner the clib will have had a steer by now.
Not to mention the players we've signed since this saga began, particularly since the hearing ended. I'm pretty sure them and their agents will have been given assurances by the club re their confidence in the outcome. Ditto players who signed new contracts. Would Haaland have signed that nine and a half year contract, if things looked dicey. And yes; I'm sure they will have had clauses included, should the worst case scenario come to pass.

Not just his words but that sparkle in his eyes at the end tells me all I need to know :)
perhaps I'm more cynical but you can see its cut before the question, and the head shakes, the particular eye closures during his answers, the brief hesitation at one point and his lips smacking suggesting a dry mouth don't fill me with as much confidence...his eyes do sparkle though..all more likely to mean he doesn't know the outcome and is apprehensive but wants to project calm, confidence.

If as you say ‘it’s cut before the question’ then surely that should give you more confidence.

This would make his response even more deliberate.
