Savinho | May 2026 - Spurs linked again (p218)

That for me is the important factor. It’s all very well people talk about his potential, or being a nice lad or whatever, but he’s an attacker and his end product is fucking woeful.
Spot on. I'd take getting back what we paid for him. He's nowhere near the level required. He's weak, rash with his final ball and his finishing is ridiculously shite. If we get back what we paid for him Viana has done well. Get back more than what we paid for him he's done very well.

Semenyo only created 1 assist in 14 Premier League games when played on the wing.

As I keep asking, which player do you want to see replace Savinho and what are the expected numbers (goals and assists) for a third-choice winger that constitute enough to remain?

I would say double figures in a season should be expected from a player in a City front three.

If our first choice front three aren’t hitting those numbers then those goals need to found elsewhere. Then we get into the conversation about Reijnders…

Thanks Just to clarify, double figures in total, 5 goals 5 assists, or double figures for each category, 10 goals and 10 assists? In the Premier League or in all tournaments?

Which player do you see us signing who will deliver those numbers (whichever you mean) in the current set up?

Yes, I would say 10 goals should be achievable if you’re playing in the front three for City.

I have no idea who in world football would come in and hit those numbers - we have a dept with that expertise. Semenyo has come in and is exceeding those numbers pro rata since Jan, so it’s clearly not an unrealistic ask.

As above, if our attacking players are averaging a goal a season then we aren’t going to win anything, whichever way we spin it.

Ten goals is more than Doku has managed in any of his three seasons for us 8, 8, and 6, respectively. Marmoush has weighed in with 8 and 8. Semenyo has scored 8 whilst playing as a winger and the others came as a forward.

Savinho posted 4 goals and 3 assists last season, where he was out four times with separate injuries. By contrast, in his first season, when uninjured, he posted 3 goals and 13 assists. He’s never going to be a great goal threat but he does create. Last season saw Haaland, Doku, O’Reilly, Reijnders, and Marmoush all fail to score when he set them up with just the keeper to beat, and those are just off the top of my head.

Finding another player who will get 10 goals and be able to get 10 assists from the wing is not going to be easy, no matter how much we laud our experts, especially when they’ll be playing second fiddle to Doku and Semenyo.

Given that Semenyo and Cherki can play on the right, why not play McAidoo instead of signing another player?
Cherki is our only creative spark in midfield.
McAidoo has shown promise but is still extremely young and inexperienced. If we sell Savinho, we need to find an upgrade/alternative, but the academy door should be open to the 4th winger spot.

Shows what a huge miss Olise was when we should have snapped him up from Palace instead of bringing in Savinho. 60 million Euros a bargain. Impossible transfer now and can't get too excited with whats out there. Better to keep our powder dry and use Foden , Cherki to cover if we don't think Savinho will progress (I don't think he is suited to the league) than buy an average stop gap. Really not much available on the right and thankfully we pulled the trigger on Semenyo when we did. Agree financially we will do ok from Savinho if we sell but not a lot out there in same position to reinvest in.

Yes, the overall numbers you’ve posted above (as an attacking group) for all players aren’t good enough and that’s why we fell short in the league and champions league.

No one wants to repeat that next season, least of all Maresca.

If someone came in with a decent bid for Marmoush I’d sell him too, but it’s unlikely.

We do have an offer incoming from Spurs for Savinho, which gives us a good opportunity to recoup money for an underperforming player and invest it back into the squad.

You don’t need to take my word for it, if City decide to sell Savinho it’s because his performances haven’t been good enough. Had they been good enough, he wouldn’t be getting sold and better teams than Spurs would be looking to sign him.

Whoever we bring in *should* be better than Semenyo, it doesn’t make sense to get squad role players when that’s code for “not good enough”
They have to be comfortable wide, and very creative with the ability to get more than 2 goals in 2 prem seasons with Cherki Doku Haaland next to them.
