Kindle

I put off buying one for months as I love my books but now can't understand why I didn't get one sooner. Easy to read and takes up no space at all. I did however buy a cover that opens like a book so got the best of both worlds.

Love mine. Was reluctant to get one at first but they are great.

I too am an avid reader who loves the 'feel' of books, but they really are a godsend.
Takes up much less room than some weighty tome, especially on holiday when half my sodding suitcase used to consist of dog-eared paperbacks.
A good thing.

I bought Wifey one for Christmas and this is her opinion.
She thinks that electronic downloads are expensive though (she does frequent the sites where you can download certain titles for free)

Don't forget that

<a class="postlink" href="http://calibre-ebook.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://calibre-ebook.com/</a>

frees you from the Kindle format tyranny.
It will convert any book format into Kindle for you, apart from books with DRM (and even then there's a convoluted plug in you can get to do that)

One of the best gifts I have been given! Its amazing! I can download books right from Amazon in about a minute - I have a little case with a light on - and the batt life lasts for weeks!!

Its just brill!

Same here, but it's the fact that I can only find some books on the kindle

Don't suppose you can suggest a good bookstore on the net that I can find Donald E. Westlake's 'Bank Shot'?? I've looked high and low!
Holy Shit. Another Westlake fan, my favourite writer of all time, both the Dortmunder stuff and also the Parker books he wrote as Richard Stark. (Sadly, the useless Jason Statham is to play Parker in a new film. Terrible casting)

Used copies of The Bank Shot are on Amazon mate here:

I resisted buying a Kindle as I too prefer real books, but got one for Christmas and now realise they are a complement to real books, as opposed to a replacement for.
With the demise of independent bookshops in this country, you are pretty much limited to what Waterstone's and Smiths choose to stock, or else shop online.
The Kindle has got me hard-to-find stuff and also introduced me to some brilliant writers who would rarely if ever be stocked in Waterstones.
That said, Waterstones Deansgate has a brilliant crime fiction section, some of the lads who staff it are very knowledgeable about vintage noir and US hard boiled stuff, which is my particular bag.

Always liked the feel and smell of a new book.

Bought a Kindle and never looked back.

Anyone who reads books now is stuck in a byegone era in my opinion. Get with the times and upgrade. Kindle Touch is out at the end of this month. I'd wait for that one if you're seriously looking at getting one.
Kindle touch is more like a tablet, though, complete with shit battery life.
The original Kindle keyboard is the best for memory, battery life and also has free 3G as well as wi-fi, so you can get online anywhere

I think you are confusing the Kindle Touch with the Kindle Fire. A tablet that isn't available in the UK cos it doesn't work here.
