If everything happened as you say it did you should definitely report him. No need to be aggressive unless you were being a tool.
 
Sound lads I know who work the doors. Just doing an underpaid shitty job where they get shit all night.

Think about it: 100 people in a bar... they're meeting every single one of these people and will find some kind of shit directed towards them.
Before you know it you're walking up to them and after just being spat at, verbally abused or whatever you expect professionalism and good customer service.

Anyone would struggle not biting at the slighest thing and many will find themselves becoming the aggressor.

Future reference:

He/she can NOT refuse their SIA badge number

Request their SIA number... doesn't matter what their name is... SIA number, note the time and place and report it
