Where to stay in Amsterdam

Going for a three day break to Amsterdam at the end of the month with the girlfriend and want to know which is the best part of the city to stay in.
Just want somewhere reasonably quiet where there's a few bars and restaurants not sex clubs and discos.

Having a look on Expedia now and there's places scattered across the city - just don't want to get one that's smack bang in the middle of a seedy part of town.

Am hoping for a 1 in 10 sensible to silly answer ratio here - got to be realistic haven't you ;-)

Around Vondel Park is a good bet - a little bit outside the centre, but only a few minutes on a tram (there's trams every few minutes too). It's a pretty quiet (and expensive) residential area, but with plenty of bars and places to eat.

Bit sickly for me, think I'll stick to Amstel

That sort of place yeah - near the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Musuem too - thanks ;-)

I stayed at the citizen M hotel last time we played, nice and quite couple of tram stops or a good walk into the centre, enjoyed it. The bathroom arrangements are very Dutch mind.

Lived in .nl for 3 years, used to stay here whilst waiting for my appartment to be readied.
Very very high quality hotel right next to the museum district.

I've booked to stay here with the missus in a few weeks due to the good trip advisor reviews.

Also I'd say the location is perfect near Vondel Park, museums close to Leidesplien (?) for tram and bars etc..

I've stayed around the corner from it at a more budget type hotel "The Poet" which was good also.

Yes boss, it is across stadhousekade (the road infront of it) to the left.
Your missus will love it Ox, staff are not snobby, rooms are as good as any i have been in.
Location is perfect for all of that Ox yeah, i have stayed in most around Amsterdam and this is the one bud.

Have a lovely time and go to the treehouse bar in the park on a warm evening, it is beautiful. Willow leaves drooping into the water, light breeze, perfect boss :)
