Aston Villa (H) Post Match Thread

I'm home from the game & just spending a few quiet moments in a darkened room. Manchester City Football Club ... take a bow, you magnificent deliverer of rollercoaster emotions !

How much did you age today?

Unbelievable. City are the masters at last-day drama ... it's agony at the time, but looking back you wouldn't change a thing.

Aston Villa PL (H) | Man of the Match

I think the phrase "inspired substitutions" was written for today. Unbelievable stuff.

    Aston Villa (H) - Sun 22nd May, 16:00 (BST) | Pre-Match Thread

Nothing to how slowly time will pass if we're leading 1-0 on 90 minutes & they signal 6 minutes of stoppage time, with Liverpool having already won theirs.

How are we all feeling about today’s game?

I feel a quiet air of confidence ... ... which will of course instantly evaporate if Villa catch us on the break & score.

    Aston Villa (H) - Sun 22nd May, 16:00 (BST) | Pre-Match Thread

Is it my imagination, or do City get into these last-day deciders more often than any other club ? Going back to relegation & promotion deciders in the 80s ... and these days, title deciders.

    Aston Villa (H) - Sun 22nd May, 16:00 (BST) | Pre-Match Thread

While it's true that Liverpool aren't playing well (by their standards), I'm afraid it's the kind of "not well" where they still win 95% of their games, and simply never lose. They are also the experts at going behind & coming back to win. Something we struggle with for some reason (partly...

    Injury Updates

Can't we chop up Stones, Walker & Dias and make one new good defender out of the pieces ? Needs must and all that.

    The Doom Merchants Lair

I think it's the enormity of what it would mean to hand Liverpool the Quadruple, that makes it so stressful. (Shudders uncontrollably). That and having no defence, no strikers & a goalie who only saves shots that are hit straight at him. Is that negative enough for this thread ?

    The Title Race | 93 points...title won

You do get some odd last days ... Blackburn won their title despite losing on the last day (second-placed Utd couldn't win either v West Ham) ... and Villa won the title in 1981 despite losing on the last day - second-placed Ipswich also lost (to Middlesbrough).

    The Title Race | 93 points...title won

City & Liverpool have both won 78% of our / their home games this season. Not sure what my point is, except that it isn't guaranteed that both will win. There could yet be some dramatic last day twists & turns. Hope not, though - City 3-0 up at half-time would be just what the doctor ordered.

    Aston Villa (H) - Sun 22nd May, 16:00 (BST) | Pre-Match Thread

Although even after all those defeats, their GD for the season is only 2 worse than United's. And Utd qualified for Europe.

    The Title Race | 93 points...title won

Southampton are on diabolical form, unfortunately - they've lost 5 of their last 6 home games by up to 0-6. Comparing them with Villa: Villa beat them 4-0 in March. Newcastle, Palace & Watford all won at Southampton in the past couple of months.

    North stand expansion

Ah yes; George Reynolds ... an ex bare-knuckle fighter & convicted safe-cracker. His whole time at Darlington was an unmitigated disaster: fights in the directors' box during games, parading famous signings before games who then never arrived, 3 administrations & relegated 5 divisions. Also...

    West Ham (A) - Sun 15th May, 14:00 (BST) | Pre-Match Thread

We've spent all season trying to win the league with no striker/ natural goalscorer. Now we're having to do it with no defence. Not sure our goalie really makes any saves either. Yep, I'm definitely starting to crack under the pressure. Please beat West Ham, City, so I can have a...

    A song for Erling...

With the same tune, you could expand a little to: Look at him play ! Gonna score today He's Erling Haaland, Erling Haaland.

    The Title Race | 93 points...title won

If we beat West Ham, then Liverpool's players will surely feel the game is up ... which might affect their performances against Chelsea & Southampton ... and their whole quadruple could unravel pretty fast. Hopefully ! If we don't beat West Ham, then it gives them an enormous boost & they'll...

Wolves (A) | Post Match Thread

I was going to say that Kevin is a genius, but I think that's under-selling him. When you're a bit disappointed that one of your midfielders didn't get 5 in a difficult away game during the title run-in, you know that you are incredibly privileged as a fan.

Welcome Erling Haaland | Joins on 1st July

Looks like Don's extensive research into Haaland doesn't extend quite as far as knowing how to spell his name ?
