    Fulham (H) | Pre-Match Thread

The same 442 we beat Burnley with but Foden starts over Ferran at LW. When looking at our current crop of 4 wingers, Foden and Mahrez are the best at creating AND scoring, Ferran and Sterling are behind right now. Then With KdB as a false striker we have our best 3 creators in the team.

    Bernardo Silva - 2020/21 Performances

Was that with David Silva as the LCM? KdB up top, with Bernardo RCM? So 4132. Could work, would require the wide midfielders to cover for the fullbacks width (so Foden and Bernardo tonight) otherwise it would leave the back 3 (2 CBs and 1 DM) quite exposed. I suppose this Pep 442 alleviates...

    Bernardo Silva - 2020/21 Performances

But this new formation shows the promise that they can both play. 442 with Bernie RM and KdB as one of the "strikers"

    Bernardo Silva - 2020/21 Performances

Wanted to see more of it, this RM 442 position is exactly the position he played at in Monaco. He had freedom to come inside or go wide and it suited him. But also, he doesn't get consistent minutes as he is up against Mahrez, and I foresee it being tough for Bernie to get fully up to speed.

    Phil Foden - 2020/21 Performances

Best player today, a wing playmaker as Pep requires it seems. Bernardo had that in moments as well, just not to the frequency that Foden showed. Should have had an assist.

    Ferran Torres - 2020/21 Performances

Quite literally the last game against Burnley, Mahrez scored a hat trick. This is Pep's plan going forward, I surmise to compensate for the loss of David Silva. On Ferran, good finisher overall I'd say, but needs to involve himself more like Sterling and Jesus can in central positions.

    Oleksandr Zinchenko - 2020/21 Performances

Honestly think he wouldn't be that bad if he was molded into one of the defensive midfield positions, for which we now play 2 every game it seems, this wide LB doesn't work as he is too slow and can't react to counters quick enough. I think this also means Ake isn't really an option as LB...

    Porto (A) - CL | Post-Match Thread

Interesting and identical 442 set-up as Burnley, but with 2 forwards (Sterling and Ferran) up top instead of a 1 forward and a midfielder (Jesus and KdB). I said in the Burnley post match that I thought Pep might play Sterling more in this "striker" role, and I thought looking at the set up...

Foden's actually having a decent 2nd half, he's just let down by those around him. Ferran has to work on his movement more, he's had some good finishes since he's played for us but looks somewhat anonymous outside of those, even Sterling in this game is getting on the ball more. Bernardo needs...

Sterling needs to react quicker, Foden wanted to play him through but he took too long to make the run.

Well atleast Ferran didn't even get his shot off, Sterling just shot poorly.

Zinchenko just looked up after he received Foden's pass to cut the ball back... There was nobody there, should have crossed it normally.

It forces Foden wide left which is not ideal, he's much better if he can play as an inside winger. The right side confuses me because I would assume Cancelo would stay high and wide like Mendy but he isn't really.

Bernardo is playing as a 10... He's playing up top with Ferran, like KdB did with Jesus. Edit: Well I guess I should clairify, while on paper he is on the wing, I've seen him centrally quite alot and pressing up with Ferran quite often. I don't know if changing his position would do anything...

If Zinchenko and Garcia are on the left side then I'm very worried.

    Burnley (H) Post Match Thread

Yeah the Angelino remark was more in line to keep up with a wide left back, but I could see issues with it. There is likely no chance now, and hopefully Mendy can stay fit. Mendy and Cancelo as LB options is pretty good to me anyways.
