Rock Evolution – The History of Rock ’n’ Roll - Pop pre-1960 (pg 38)

That archive is fascinating. At one point tonight I even found myself feeling guilty that I didn't join the local Green Man Morris Side to help keep the local traditions alive! In their absence the Side that leads our annual Bower procession is actually called Three Spires but joining that...

Rock Evolution – The History of Rock ’n’ Roll - Pop pre-1960 (pg 38)

Was going to be my suggestion for tomorrow. Must have heard it via my Dad who I don't recall as a big country fan but certainly had some Jim Reeves.

Sorry had I read back I would have realised you'd already addressed this. As you say there is absolutely no reading of this that is anything other than appalling but I think we're going to have to get used to that.

Rock Evolution – The History of Rock ’n’ Roll - Pop pre-1960 (pg 38)

Yeah, that album and moment is so iconic but the song itself was written in '55. Cash wanted to go into Folsom much earlier but Colombia Records weren't having it I think. On the subject of his prison concerts did you know that Granada TV was responsible for the San Quentin show?!

And your prediction is they will whine but then fold?

It's such an inflammatory choice you have to wonder whether he's looking to test whether he can literally get anything through a subservient Senate, with the backup of the recess appointment if there is pushback.

I think he's quite serious, just not in a good way.

Rock Evolution – The History of Rock ’n’ Roll - Pop pre-1960 (pg 38)

I've been toying with buying the book 26 Songs in 30 Days for a while so this thread has tipped me over the edge. I've always thought Woodie Guthrie's stint employed by the BPA to write about all things related to the Grand Coulee Dam and all things Hydro, was a slightly bizarre way to end...

Rock Evolution – The History of Rock ’n’ Roll - Pop pre-1960 (pg 38)

I'm afraid I'm back! I had quite an enjoyable time listening to a greatest 50's Country music playlist last night as it's an era I have limited familiarity with. One person I was very familiar with though was the Man in Black who I don't think has actually come up yet? As a youngster I didn't...

US Presidential Election, Nov 5th 2024

I used to work at a fairly senior level (enough to understand/be involved in the contracts) for a large system integrator / BPO outfit that specialised in running more 'efficient' services including for government. I rather suspect your hopes will be dashed, but time will tell.

@RobMCFC and @Saddleworth2 just to let you know I'm getting server errors when I try to respond to or post PM's so can't currently communicate via that channel.

What a life. (Lou Donaldson passed away a few days ago too, another who played into his 90s)

I'll say one thing for you Dax you've got an answer for everything! Has he mentioned anyone for Press Secretary yet? You could be the next Sean Spicer! Who would you want to play you on SNL?

Schools? Won't be needing them, home schooling will be the order of the day. Well for the lads at least, the girls can help around the house and learn home making skills.

Good read that, thanks. Ewan MacColl was quite a domineering bloke by most accounts.

In the absence of an album of the year thread(?) maybe we can simply discuss our views on the top releases of 2024, me and @Coatigan were saying it's been a good year only a few page back

The "which famous person died today" thread

It's a mystery to me why that's not been reshown over and over. He, Barbara Ewing and it were absolutely brilliant.

So whilst many democracies are grappling with the relationship between the nation state and billionaire technologists and would be/supposed tech-utopians, the US are going to neatly side-step the issue by just handing over the keys? Well no one can accuse you guys of not ploughing your own...
