Steph Houghton | Given new role at club (p 4)

Great news. The Album Review Club - Week #146 - (page 1935) - Ocean Rain - Echo and the Bunnymen

Nice review but what's the Mazda got to do with it? Actually scrap that, there should always be a "what I was driving when I bought this" paragraph. Maybe with a brief review of the vehicle? But red Rob ? Tut tut.

Yep, my eldest tends to have around 6 to 8 mates round on a Friday night to listen to music together. Slowdive are a regular part of the playlist and they all went to see them on the last tour.

Benny chose a track from an album that he gave a 10 to and said he'd contemplated nominating himself!! Did I fail to read the exam question properly?

The "which famous person died today" thread

Yes, brilliant in loads of things including Shakespeare but, whenever I saw him, Utterly Cottage Hospital and Kier Hardie's cap always came to mind too. RIP.

So did people not nominate one of the tracks off Naturally on the assumption that other people would? (which was why I didn't)

I was referring to Ewan. I don't think Kirsty actually had that much to do with her Dad, she certainly didn't seem to think he was an influence of any sort. Don't know how much she saw of him?

Have a cousin who was on the periphery of MacColl's circle for a while and that sounds about right. Other factors impacted too like the diffusion of folk into different sub genres and just societal changes. I think the number of clubs or venues has gone up again from the low point of probably...

Great write up Rob really interesting stuff, particularly the Bristol sessions, and a really enjoyable playlist too. I know your not a covers man but there's been some great versions of I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry over the years. We even had a partial one on one of our albums on the thread...
