Charles, a new retiree, worked as a greeter at Harrods, had trouble getting to work on time. Every day, he was 5, 10, or even 15 minutes late. But he was a good worker—always neat, clean-shaven, sharp, and a great asset to the company. He clearly showed that Harrods' "Older Person Friendly"...

I was in Asda yesterday and this elderly lady was in front of me, her total came out to £251.47 but her card was declined... All of you who know me will already know what I did. God is going to bless me one day. It was a lot of groceries but I helped her put it all back.

    a work of art

I would imagine that the price includes all rights to the image, i.e. prints, advertising etc. That is why Andy Warhol's works are so valuable. In these crazy times, it may well turn out to be a very shrewd purchase.

    Positive BBC thread

I'm certainly no spring chicken, and I did say 'many'...! Good BBC programmes are few and far between imo... MOTD was an excellent programme until it became a discussion amongst pundits. It's gone downhill since Lineker and his mates got involved. Blue Peter and similar BBC educational / kids...

    Positive BBC thread

The BBC obviously does a lot of good stuff, but imo in general it's no better than the stuff produced by other companies. In a nutshell, the BBC is nothing special. It's old fashioned entertainment and very rarely 'groundbreaking'. Many older people have a far too nostalgic view of 'Aunty...

There are hundreds (possibly thousands) of acres of sugar beet growing across East Anglia. There's a huge manufacturing plant in Bury St Edmunds, probably the biggest employer in the area.

    TV Shows you hate

Mrs Brown's Boys. The biggest lump of shite I've ever seen on TV. I'd even rather watch the rags than that crap.

    Positive BBC thread

Any good shows / programmes would almost certainly have been picked up by other TV companies even if the BBC didn't exist. ITV / C4 etc models have produced many great programmes over the years. The BBC has never had to work for it's money. As an organisation, it's little more than a...

    Positive BBC thread

There's no need whatsoever for the licence fee. It's an outdated tax used to fund the likes of Lineker and second rate presenters. I'd be more than happy for the BBC to raise money through advertising, like all other TV companies. Most BBC programmes are followed by lengthy promos (adverts)...
