What are you listening to.................RIGHT NOW!!!

This amusing video by Manchester post-punk band The Red Stains. Reminded me a bit of The Slits and The Birthday Party.

    The Conservative Party

I see that the far-right are having a meltdown on X/Twitter because Schrödinger’s Muslim got re-elected. Khan has to be simultaneously too Islamist and too ‘woke’ for them, while 'London has fallen' and already become like the Paris of Houellebecq's notorious novel in their overheated...

    TV Series

It’s an exceptional drama. Although the subject matter (the OxyContin scandal) may not have wide appeal, I think it’s one of the best series in recent years, right up there with David Simon’s best work. I also had no idea that Michael Keaton was such a good actor.

    The Conservative Party

A recent example: More detail here: Owen has been a writer for the series Danger Mouse and Private Eye. Also worth noting that in their recent books, The Spirit Level and The Inner Level, epidemiologists Richard Wilkinson and Kate Pickett show that the more unequal a society is, the more...

    TV Series

It’s a great cast in Season 1 but Kat Stewart as the wonderfully foul-mouthed Roberta Williams was the standout. The way she speaks to her daughter! Imagine having her for your mum and Carl for your stepdad.

    TV Series

Part way through Season 2 of Love/Hate. Pretty good so far. Also first 6 episodes of 3 Body Problem. Have liked what I have seen, though am more intrigued by the plot than the characters. But the real revelation has been the Australian crime series Underbelly. Each season is based on true life...

    Best band you've seen live?

The Cramps in Manchester in the late 70’s. Can’t remember where it was - a club up near Manchester University. Also Kate Bush round about the same time. Think the venue for that was the Manchester Apollo.

Good bands but with a small audience

The Cramps. Saw them very early on their history in Manchester when founding member Bryan Gregory was still alive. Not sure if this was the gig Morrissey wrote about but they were awesome. And they were also excellent when they made this TV appearance on The Tube a few years later. Also...
