As I said in my original post, the hand signals were still part of the Highway Code and had to be learnt just in case the examiner asked you about them. But as I have already stated,I have never used them in the 50 years I have had a full licence and was not asked to display them during my...

As they say " You learn something new everyday". Never heard that term before, and only ever saw them on the odd car in the mid 70s. The odd Morris Minor and older cars like Alvis and Rileys etc.

Yes, we visited my wife's friend who lives in Prestatyn, and she knows where all the speed cameras are situated. The only time she could ever be done for speeding is by a traffic cop in a car,or a mobile speed trap.

    Asa Hartford.

I remember when he signed for City from West Brom in 1974 ( I think) and he was known as Asa Hole in the heart ford. But he was a cracking player, gave his all in a City shirt and was a genuine crowd favourite. Happy Birthday Asa.

Mine even had some petrol coupons attached to the log book as there was talk of petrol rationing ( like in WW2) after the Yom Kippur war in 1973. Fortunately they were never needed and I eventually binned them.

I was in N.Wales for a few days away last week and a lot of the built up areas are 20 mph speed limit now. It's very difficult to drive at that speed for any length of time as it feels like you are crawling along, and traffic soon builds up behind you.

Bloody hell, that is exactly the same car as I had with the wood at the back, sliding windows instead of winding ones, and bits of cable to open the doors. It was 9 years old when I bought it, and I paid £200 for it in June 1974. I had saved £ 100, my Dad gave me £100 towards it for my 18th...

Yes pal, I have never used any hand signals in the ensuing 50 years, but you had to know them just in case the examiner asked you to demonstrate them. Hell, there were still cars that had semaphore type signals on them back in the mid 70s, but fortunately I never had pleasure of owning one.

I remember my instructor making a point of looking all around at crossings etc, so the examiner can see that you are an observant driver. And I had the old MSM ( mirror - signal - manoeuvre) drummed into me ,so ago the examiner must have noticed I was aware of what was happening around me when I...

My first company car was a green Austin Allegro ( they acquired the nickname all aggro) due to the fact they were very unreliable. Mine was an S- reg and I used to always have a 5 litre container of oil in the boot as it seemed to use more oil than petrol. This was in 1979. Happy Days !!

My Mini -Countryman was a very similar colour to that car, although mine was probably a bit darker blue/turquoise. And that can't be a real Countryman as they had a timber frame on both sdes at the rear of the car.

Driving test at the first time attempt on Thursday 24/10/1974. No theory test in those days, just have as many lessons as your instructor thought you needed and then apply for a test date. The test centre was in Cheetham Hill, not far from Strange ways. Hand signals were still in use at that...

PL charge City for alleged breaches of financial rules

In the early 70s he used to live in a bungalow on Alkrington, Middleton just around the corner from my mum and dad. And directly across the road from where my best pal used to live on Hardfield Road.
