The Album Review Club - Week #146 - (page 1935) - Ocean Rain - Echo and the Bunnymen

Wow, everything I've been thinking down to the score and the feeling until the hit comes on. Will have to come up with some new material. Well said, Rob!

The Bluemoon Song Cup 2024 Champion Is Hilts!

Cheers, I considered AC/DC and the like, but this to me was about throwing out a curveball or two.

The Bluemoon Song Cup 2024 Champion Is Hilts!

Like those indeed, and.... @WickyWain list was strong as noted, and @bigstanhibbert with "What A Fool Believes" was a standout pick for favourite I wish I had thought of.

The Bluemoon Song Cup 2024 Champion Is Hilts!

Hey now! And you're welcome. ;-) 'bout time one draw went my way.

Rock Evolution – The History of Rock ’n’ Roll - Pop pre-1960 (pg 38)

Finding one not yet mentioned, on any of the previous lists, not easy. I'm picking one my Mom liked in her teenage years. Lots of Elvis qualified on the Pop lists, but I see what's in store for next week and don't want to blur those lines of what's next to Roll. This song was written by Ted...

The Album Review Club - Week #146 - (page 1935) - Ocean Rain - Echo and the Bunnymen

1984 still available here, just saying. Sounds like that year would be right up your alley! https://forums.bluemoon-mcfc.co.uk/threads/rock-evolution-%E2%80%93-the-history-of-rock-%E2%80%99n%E2%80%99-roll-pop-pre-1960-pg-38.366250/

I initially read that first sentence as "you do it to yourself". I need help or more coffee, probably both. ;-)

The Album Review Club - Week #146 - (page 1935) - Ocean Rain - Echo and the Bunnymen

I just recall another UK indie band that you were critical of on the vocal delivery department, which I find light years better than this, so that was all. ;-) It could have been that one too, but I hear more of the lyrics I quoted each and every time that one queued up, so much that I...

The Album Review Club - Week #146 - (page 1935) - Ocean Rain - Echo and the Bunnymen

Tellin' Stories - The Charlatans This was another band I had not heard much of their music, much less than anything from this album before this week. A bit surprising even to me with the alternative rock, Britpop, and indie rock labels the band gets. The album gets a hip hop soul label, and I...

The Bluemoon Song Cup 2024 Champion Is Hilts!

I voted for Stevie in that round, and no regrets. THAT was quite an unlucky draw, and I could see that clearly going further had it not gone up against WGFA that early. Looking forward to seeing all the song reveals, and learning which doozy that BimboBob didn't get to call his own.

The Bluemoon Song Cup 2024 Champion Is Hilts!

The irony of the song title, and what we're now experiencing is not lost on me. What was that iconic line in the song again? Almost can't make this "stuff" up.

The Bluemoon Song Cup 2024 Champion Is Hilts!

I will say this about Foggy, he may not finish in first again, but wow can he pick a winning song!

The Album Review Club - Week #146 - (page 1935) - Ocean Rain - Echo and the Bunnymen

While I hear all that and can appreciate the music you note, I too am struggling to get past the vocals upon first listen. And it wasn't a continuous one either. I had to stop and take breaks and remember where I left off to get through that first listen. I don't struggle with Oasis and...

Rock Evolution – The History of Rock ’n’ Roll - Pop pre-1960 (pg 38)

Ok, then this song wasn't, and I'm hearing more folk than blues and that's how it is listed online. * Good enough for Nirvana and many others too... "Where Did You Sleep Last Night" / "In the Pines" - Lead Belly (* "In the Pines" is a traditional American folk song originating from two songs...

Rock Evolution – The History of Rock ’n’ Roll - Pop pre-1960 (pg 38)

Ouch, should have done the overall search vs. looking at this playlist. More folk than blues, but Lead Belly blended both genres.

Rock Evolution – The History of Rock ’n’ Roll - Pop pre-1960 (pg 38)

Any proper "country & folk" playlist has to have this standard, popular, and often borrowed tune by many over the decades. This was a 20th-century American folk standard, written in 3/4 time, first recorded by American blues and folk musician Huddie William Ledbetter in 1933. That artist was...

The Album Review Club - Week #146 - (page 1935) - Ocean Rain - Echo and the Bunnymen

My writeup was going to say that the vocals sounded like a deliberate attempt of a cross between Bob Dylan and Liam Gallagher, but given others have already picked up on variations of it, Time Will Wait For No One...

The Album Review Club - Week #146 - (page 1935) - Ocean Rain - Echo and the Bunnymen

You provided some good cover for me, so much appreciated on your nomination. My initial song and still favourite from that album was "I Don't Believe In You", which had it stood over "The Pan Within", would have provided 2 songs from that album. It was close, but the fiddle won. Woo...

The Album Review Club - Week #146 - (page 1935) - Ocean Rain - Echo and the Bunnymen

You can't go wrong with a best song from 2024 either (better "released in" than "first heard in", but I digress).

Blue Moon Playlist Review Club - Season 2 - Episode 27 - Out on blue 6 - Gone Too Soon (pg 438)

Ok, I'm sold and will add this to my shortlist to listen to soon. I would agree on the harmonies I've heard on the 4 songs I'm more familiar with. I'm not surprised there, and you'd pretty much have to given they put out 3 new songs as well, which is more than most bands do on a compilation of...
