The Bluemoon Song Cup 2024 Champion Is Hilts!

As mentioned earlier in the thread that Who performance is epic and iconic - knee slide from Pete that Rodri would be proud of. Love the Oasis track but it ain’t even my favourite Oasis song. The Who for me.

Rock Evolution – The History of Rock ’n’ Roll - Pop pre-1960 (pg 38)

Nice write-up. I’m not a Blues aficionado but I am a big fan of bands that were influenced by it. Will give the playlist an airing tomorrow and try to find one of those influential numbers to add to it.

Blue Moon Playlist Review Club - Season 2 - Episode 27 - Out on blue 6 - Gone Too Soon (pg 438)

My second track is "Wild Dogs" by Tommy Bolin, an immensely talented guitarist who took on the, at the time, near impossible task of filling Ritchie Blackmore's shoes in Deep Purple. This track his from his fine solo album "Teaser". If you want to hear him scorch the fret board, check out...

Blue Moon Playlist Review Club - Season 2 - Episode 27 - Out on blue 6 - Gone Too Soon (pg 438)

Thanks. In that case I will make no apologies for starting with a song that I have reviewed on this forum but I think is very fitting: "In My Time of Dying" by Led Zep and featuring the incomparable John Henry Bonham. This playlist is about people who have kicked the bucket but before...

Blue Moon Playlist Review Club - Season 2 - Episode 27 - Out on blue 6 - Gone Too Soon (pg 438)

Are we supposed only to pick lesser known musicians or just any that passed away far too soon?

    Rodri - The 2024 Ballon d'Or Winner! (Pg 131)

Overdue for a City player to win this award, Haaland should have had it last year and it’s a sin that KDB hasn’t won it but absolutely delighted for Rodri, who totally merits the award as he was simply the best player in the world last season.

Greatest Opening Lines to a song

"In the day we sweat it out on the streets Of a runaway American dream At night we ride through the mansions of glory In suicide machines Sprung from cages on Highway 9 Chrome wheeled, fuel injected, and steppin' out over the line Oh, baby this town rips the bones from your back It's a death...

Greatest Opening Lines to a song

"Please allow me to introduce myself, I'm a man of wealth and taste" "Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy?" "There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold"

Hope they go for Gareth and not Xavi, who is one of my all time favourite players not to play for City. I guess they will try and emulate City by going for another Pep wannabe but City's brand of football is surely not what the Red hordes want, they won't understand it for a start.

The Bluemoon Song Cup 2024 Champion Is Hilts!

Top rock rhythm section for me. Other contenders: Lee / Pearl; Squire / Bruford (or White); Bill / Charlie; Bonham / Jones. Honourable mentions: Paul / Ringo; Rutherford / Collins; Simmons / Criss;-) Smith / Flea; Tallent / Weinberg; Butler / Ward; Bruce / Baker.

The Bluemoon Song Cup 2024 Champion Is Hilts!

Geddy Lee is on record as describing Pete Townsend as the best song writer. The Who, Cream, Yardbirds, Zep and Buffalo Springfield are acknowledged by Rush as key influences. They covered a Who song on their mini album / E.P.

The Bluemoon Song Cup 2024 Champion Is Hilts!

Oh man. Here we disagree. A string of great singles in the 60’s. Three classic albums, two of which are doubles. And plenty of very good, sometimes classic music on other albums. Also, to see the original Who with Moon on drums was one of the great concert experiences, as good as anything...

My love of football will remain for as long as I am alive and well to enjoy it but the way the game is run is a source of annoyance. The League Cup in isolation is a funny one and a bit of an oddity: two domestic up competitions is unusual but a constant in my lifetime. That domestic up...

I am interested to see if Pep can bring himself to send kids out vs Spurs. Not that I will see live as I have a pre-existing engagement. I have a great fondness for the League Cup - first thing I saw us win in ‘76 and my first final in ‘74 - but it has become a competition that should be...

    Southampton (H) | PL | Post-Match Thread

I think it has got worse but I can’t prove it. I’m sure there is data out there that could be used to show one way or another if teams are sitting deeper etc. City certainly have more possession now than in Mancini’s or Pellegrini’s day and although it has gone up and won under Pep, I would...

    The Co-op Live Arena

That’s no consolation. I saw him at Wembley Stadium in 1985 and in 2024 and I will make my first visit to the Co-op to see him in 2025. I’m not sure when he and the band peaked as a live act but they are still brilliant. Astonishingly good given their average age. No one I’d rather go and...

The Bluemoon Song Cup 2024 Champion Is Hilts!

AC/DC make a virtue out of simple in a way that few bands can match.

The Bluemoon Song Cup 2024 Champion Is Hilts!

My love for VH exceeds that for both AC/DC and The Who. VH’s WGFA is brilliant and clever but you can’t beat The Who’s. Entwistle’s bass is sensational. The best version for me is the live one recorded for The Kid’s Are Alright film. Keith Moon’s drumming on the intro is superb.

    Southampton (H) | PL | Post-Match Thread

Someone sat near me yesterday said take your man on when one ball went to one of our wingers and I bemoaned but it’s two men. Almost every team we play doubles up on our wingers the moment they get the ball, and so they often pass inside to the full back (or…). This is where City need to move...
