    The Labour Government

Hasn't she just confirmed this morning, that overall spending won't be cut in real terms? They've already heavily suggested that wealth taxes will go up quite considerably, and as well as hinting that a lot of investment borrowing will happen without breaking her rules, some reports have...

Are Arsenal actually placing bounties on opposing players?

There was that game just before the Sterling/Gomez incident at the England camp. Liverpool players are often wound up, but that one looked like they'd been given an extra couple of cups of coffee before the game. I think Alexander-Arnold knocked Sterling into the advertising early on, and...

You tend not to get 4 different angles on off the ball incidents. Most of the time it's because you have lots of cameras following the ball, so any incident close to the ball, will be recorded on a mix of wide and close shots.

Is it because at kick off they all tend to pull back for a wide view? There's probably no real reason why they'd have a close up on two players when the ball isn't near them.

It's probably one of the right's 'greatest' achievements, to convince the average worker that joining a union is bad for them. The left are often accused of "the politics of envy", but encouraging someone to want to bring a fellow worker down to their level, rather than organise and rise, is...

Saville was only high profile when they realised the extent of it. I thought the main problem was that lots of celebs will get accusations, and he also had friends in the police who if not covering up, were helping push the 'man with money being faces false claims" narrative. The cases weren't...

    The Conservative Party

Clearly nothing to see here. I think the Tories might regret making political donations an issue, because it's an area where they're never likely to come out smelling of roses. https://www.tortoisemedia.com/2024/09/20/robert-jenricks-top-donor-received-loan-from-untraceable-bvi-firm/

Yes. Have you perhaps misread my post and the one I replied to? I suspect we agree.

Do you think that's possible? That the media would just let it go, rather than ask about it every time someone was wearing a new suit, or dress? I do wonder if it ultimately backfire on the Tories (and Reform). Labour already have plans to pretty much stop second jobs, and cut back on lobbying...

From what I've read Alison Levitt was already being tasked with looking out for systematic issues, and this came to him, and then he asked her to review the decision. As you say there was no evidence that anything came to him in 2009. He must have been doing something, as the OP suggested, so...

I believe he identified there was a problem at the CPS where cases like this DIDN'T get referred to him, or other senior figures. It's pretty well established that he introduced a new senior role at the CPS to look into this, and that when the Saville was being looked at again, this did result...

That's what I meant. Factoids are usually supposed to not be true. The word has been corrupted over time, but I thought for really trivial facts, like how many GCSEs a pop star got, or that someone famous had an unusually named parent. I'd say that's an actual interesting piece of information...

Is that not actually true though, rather a factoid?

CL new format - can anyone explain ?

Where's your table from? It's alphabetical on the UEFA website.

    Pagers can kill

If you have no idea where the target is, or who they are standing next to, then it's not "unfortunate". We all know wars are morally very messy, but accepting this would be a hugely dangerous precedent. It's almost certainly illegal, and in all likelihood a terrorist act in itself.

    Pagers can kill

I think you'd have to put morals aside, rather than just politics. As we've seen, many of the people with these devices were in public places, and so it becomes a totally indiscriminate act of violence.

I think it's 20% if it's not residential property. Lots of articles today in the papers, again suggesting it'll be aligned with Income Tax. I note most of the right wing press highlight landlords as the biggest losers, because even GB News isn't going to try and convince it's viewers to feel...

    Keir Starmer

True - although I do wonder if the Tories might be making a bit of an error going after the hospitality early on. Labour have talked about banning second jobs, payments from lobbyists etc., which are very heavily skewed towards Tory MPs. All this fuss, might make a 'clean up' of politics a lot...

    The Labour Government

I'm not sure you've read those articles I posted ;) Brown and Osborne both changed the tax reliefs around pensions, and both resulted in similar yearly amounts of tax savings. You can argue semantics about what stage of the pension process the tax relief changed, but it still amounts to money...

    The Labour Government

Strange that Osborne hasn't got the same reputation. Brown's pension changes occurred at a time when most pension schemes were in credit and the economy buoyant. Osborne started his raids when the economy was already struggling...
