The case of the canned ham (sectioned and formed) in Cheltenham…

Thank you both. I picked up the name from a colleague I had worked with for about 15 years when I left Surrey to come to Scotland. I looked upon her as my protege and indeed I think she did a better job than I would have done had I stayed. I had taught her well technically but she had better...

The case of the canned ham (sectioned and formed) in Cheltenham…

Another case which like the bolt in sausage illustrates some vagaries of judicial processes. It started with a trading standards officer on holiday buying a can of ham and being “disgusted” by its contents. On his return to work he purchased three cans as a formal sample; one for the Public...

PL charge City for alleged breaches of financial rules

Yes, it is frustrating to see City being publicly passive but as we see with Bernstein anything we say will be edited by the media to make us look bad.

Best wishes, at least you are now able to get treatment.

Three steady psa tests in a row now at 2.8, annual mri scan - minimal growth in lesion - remain on active surveillance.

PL charge City for alleged breaches of financial rules

With my Cassandra hat on, I think, win or lose, the consequences for both City and the Premier League are impossible to call. If City decide that the charging and/or the conclusion of the ‘Independent’ panel is vexatious and unjustified by the evidence then their owners and maybe some of their...

PL charge City for alleged breaches of financial rules

So called legal expert from Liverpool University interviewed on BBC Radio Scotland this morning when asked to explain the charges against City started by explaining that City were trying to avoid the EPL regulations about keeping losses below £105M over three seasons!!!! Hope the legal minds on...

    Why use peaches not nectarines

How to get from peaches/nectarines to Cowdenbeath in two short posts.

    Why use peaches not nectarines

Slightly tangential but the difference between peaches and nectarines is down to a single recessive gene in the nectarine - it does affect the flavour and texture as well as causing the nectarine to be hairless. https://sciencewriters.ca/blog/8508748

PL charge City for alleged breaches of financial rules

Sorry I wasn’t clear enough, I meant if the PL appointed commission applied the same logic as Haas would we then mount a legal challenge against the PL commission’s decision?

PL charge City for alleged breaches of financial rules

Suppose we get a judgement along these lines from the PL appointed commission would we be likely to challenge it as a legally flawed argument?

PL charge City for alleged breaches of financial rules

I think the nightmare scenario would be Omar Berrada doing a Billy Meredith.

    The Labour Government

Basically so long as we, the electorate, vote in governments with massive majorities in parliament based on only around 20-25% of the total electorate actually going out and voting for them then we can expect to suffer from a sequence of elected dictatorships. That means that each government’s...

PL charge City for alleged breaches of financial rules

OK, the thread starts by quoting slbsn saying no one should be certain about the outcome of any legal case ……. City claim to have irrefutable evidence to support their case …… I believe them …. I give an example of a case I was involved in where I thought (and still do) that the evidence in...

PL charge City for alleged breaches of financial rules

The short answer is that this was before the Food Safety Act 1990, which introduced the ‘due diligence and all reasonable precautions’ defence. Yes, this was a formal prosecution by the local authority, though the prosecution was led by a QC rather than an environmental health officer as...

PL charge City for alleged breaches of financial rules

I have appeared as an expert witness quite a few times in a past life, albeit always at magistrate / sheriff court level and in connection with food quality / contamination issues. My view is that flipping a coin would probably give a more accurate judgement. I was normally asked to appear by...

    Referees’ Performances | 2024/2025

I went to check the sequence of events surrounding the yellow card for Haaland and I couldn’t find the showing of the yellow card which I saw on Sunday as being after the VAR check ……

    Referees’ Performances | 2024/2025

If he had seen the foul then why didn’t he also show the yellow card at that point? VAR isn’t supposed to be for judging whether a yellow card is required. The only other alternative is that the yellow card was for something Haaland said - perhaps he should have commented in Norwegian.
