The UK had 12 statistical regions according the European NUTS classification system. 9 in England + Scotland, Wales, NI. Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics - Wikipedia ONS regional statistics have been grouped in this way since the 90s. e.g. there was a time when Cumbria was...

    Coronavirus (2021) thread

The Government's target is to offer 15 million vaccines by mid February. 'Offering' the vaccine has always been how the target is framed. All they are doing is continuing to report progress towards their clearly stated objective. Not sure why this is so difficult to understand.

Calling all Tories. Why do you Tory?

No it didn't. The national affordability crisis occurred between 1997-2006, with affordability plateauing (not getting worse, but also no better) since then. The data is there (ONS) if you care to look.

Yes, fair play, the Welsh Government have being doing well to catch up after a slow start. Especially when considering a number of vaccination centres were disrupted by flooding a couple of weeks ago.

Calling all Tories. Why do you Tory?

Blaming the housing crisis on Right to Buy is a bit of a myth. For starters, the housing affordability crisis kicked in a long time after Thatcher had been deposed. e.g. in 1997 the average housing affordability ratio* in England was 3.5, not having changed much since the late 70s. * =...

They uploaded 50 new songs onto the NYA website yesterday, with one of the highlights being an early recording of Ambulance Blues dating from 1973. It's really worth a listen. Of the rest of the songs released, there are around 30 versions of songs from the Buffalo Springfield era or earlier...

    Going to Buy a Campervan

we came back from our two weeks in Scotland in late summer determined to get a motorhome (rather than a camper), mainly for the reasons in your first para. It is only 2-3 weeks ago that Gwynedd had the lowest per capita rate in the whole of the UK. Local factors are playing a big part in Wrexham. e.g. 24 drivers at the Arriva Bus depot went off with Covid at about the same time. As you say, the area has a much higher proportion of people employed...

    Coronavirus (2021) thread

One key difference between NZ and the UK is that the latter is much more dependent on food imports. Overall, we import about 40% of our food requirements, either because we simply cant grow the food here (oranges, bananas, etc.) or because of how supply chains have developed historically (e.g...
