Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Thread

Hardly. It’s a fair distance from Glasgow. It is between Glasgow and Edinburgh on the M8 not too far from Coatbridge and Motherwell. It is 12 miles from Glasgow and 34 miles from Edinburgh.

Alan Ball did get Portsmouth promoted to the Top Division. More that Rooney has ever managed.

I was going to attend that match. Tynecastle is only a ten minute walk from our house. Late on I had some concerns and instead we went to Easter Road to watch Hibs beat QPR 2-1. As soon as Alan Ball was unveiled as manager I had grave misgivings and this was reinforced by getting thumped by...

First Game, Traveling Down From Edinburgh (Football Tourist alert)

I assume you are referring to the Ibis Budget at New Islington. It’s not bad if rather basic but there isn’t anywhere to eat near there. I have stayed there several times but I am not sure if there is any parking available. I would suggest either staying in the City Centre and get the tram out...

    Media Discussion - 2023/24

If City got 35,000 (the capacity of Maine Road) they would pay no rent. It was on a sliding scale for higher crowds. I suspect if Stuart Pearce had stayed in charge for another season that City would have played rent-free at COMS.

    Metrolink to / from Etihad

Except that you don’t really have to tap in. You need it to get through the barrier at the Etihad. Otherwise it is just to have if an inspector arrives. It doesn’t really happen on match days for obvious reasons.

Everton forward Stuart Barlow was known as Jigsaw. He went to pieces in the box!

Welcome Savinho | Signs for £21m on a 5 year deal

Not really. One of my former colleagues was seconded to Brazil and took a Portuguese language course before he went. Unfortunately he took a Portuguese Portuguese course rather than a Brazilian Portuguese one. They could understand him perfectly but did rip the piss out of him for the way he...

Joe Mercer Appointed Manager Today 1965

When George Poyser was clearly on his way out, we were struggling to think who would replace him. I don’t think anyone considered Joe Mercer although I think he was certainly well qualified. The only concern was his health as he had suffered a stroke resulting in him departing from Aston Villa...

Joe Mercer Appointed Manager Today 1965

His second goal was at Deepdale on 23 October 1965 in a 3-0 win. He looked like a player who ought to have thrived in the Second tier after being prolific for Rangers. I am uncertain what his position was. We thought he was a centre forward though he was labelled an inside forward elsewhere...

Joe Mercer Appointed Manager Today 1965

That is untrue. Brand scored at Maine Road against Bristol City in a 2-2 on 28 August 1965. It was his third match for City. The problem was the huge wait for his second goal!

    City and WWE

The whole thing is obviously choreographed in advance. Being associated with it should be embarrassing for City or any reputable sports club.

    Francis Lee RIP

My first car was a 1961 Ford Anglia. It was on its last legs but it went really well until it broke down. Four of us used to travel to all away matches. On a trip to Newcastle it died near Durham. We had to cadge a lift on a supporters bus to the match and back Durham afterwards. We stayed in a...

    Tottenham 1 City 3 May 1968

I had all the programmes for that season and the two before. They were all organised in a drawer. I used to buy two programmes so that one was intact after cutting out the voucher (home matches) or removing the front page (away matches) to get cup final tickets. My mother threw them out when I...
