Rock Evolution – The History of Rock & Roll - 1961 (pg 62)

I think we will be giving all the writers plenty of notice and probably insisting that the write-up be submitted a few weeks in advance. Unlike the album thread, we can’t afford to have a no-show because that might wreck things! On the other hand, this is a great idea if for some reason we...

The Album Review Club - Christmas Break Until 8th January

There are some CDs that for some reason I buy years after they were released. Well, used to because I don’t bother anymore - Spotify is so good. I only have 600 or so CDs - probably about 100 or so I’ve sold/given away/chucked away. I think I started this list sometime in the early 2000s -...

The Album Review Club - Christmas Break Until 8th January

Still not listened to it yet but there is is in the list of CDs I bought at some stage. I don't remember any of the songs, but I do remember that I bought it on the strength of a review but it didn't stick with me, or maybe I didn't stick with it long enough. I know it was one of the CDs that...

The Album Review Club - Christmas Break Until 8th January

Interestingly I once bought this album ..... and then let it go. So it'll be interesting to see whether my opinion has changed all these years later. I can't remember any of the songs so it will probably be like listening for the first time.

    Blue Moon Playlist Review Club - Season 2 - Episode 28 - Coatigan - Instrumentals (pg 444)

A bit late now! We're already halfway through week 2.

Rock Evolution – The History of Rock & Roll - 1961 (pg 62)

They are priority order for those who have asked for more than one year. Anybody with a (1) has secured that year. Not sure about Mancitydoogle who didn't specify a priority. But what that means is that if you see somebody with any number other than a (1), you could quite reasonably ask to...

Rock Evolution – The History of Rock & Roll - 1961 (pg 62)

I think that Saddleworth2 and threespires have provided most of the answers you need. We haven't decided on a maximum number of tracks that people should be allowed to nominate per year so let's have an open discussion here. That's what this week is for - sorting out the ground rules. I was...

Rock Evolution – The History of Rock & Roll - 1961 (pg 62)

Brave, but I'm sure you will set an high standard going first (after the intro rounds, that is). No problem, welcome aboard. Note to everybody, if you request a year and I like your post, just assume that you've got it. If you want a year where somebody else already has multiple choices, then...

Rock Evolution – The History of Rock & Roll - 1961 (pg 62)

As a few people have already asked for more than one year, feel free to add another year to your requests (and mark your order of preferences).

Rock Evolution – The History of Rock & Roll - 1961 (pg 62)

Good point re the order of preferences, I've marked that down in the table on post #1.

Rock Evolution – The History of Rock & Roll - 1961 (pg 62)

    Even though I suspect we'll be writing for the early 60s, I've put myself down for 1965 as well. Here's what we've got so far. 60s 70s 80s 90s 00s 10s 20s 19x0 threespires 19x1 Saddleworth2 OB1 19x2 Mancitydoogle 19x3 OB1 19x4...

Rock Evolution – The History of Rock & Roll - 1961 (pg 62)

I'm noting all of these down, and obviously it's great that you are enthusiastic to write up certain years but that's 4 years already and two in close proximity: 1969, 1973, 1975, 1981 It may well be that you get to write for all of these years but we'll have to bear in mind the balance if we...

Rock Evolution – The History of Rock & Roll - 1961 (pg 62)

I thought weasels wore blue and white stripey shirts. But my knowledge could be swayed by Willy Weasel’s appearance in the Tufty the Squirrel 1970s road safety video.

Rock Evolution – The History of Rock & Roll - 1961 (pg 62)

    Saddleworth2 has pre-nabbed 1971.

Rock Evolution – The History of Rock & Roll - 1961 (pg 62)

Definitely. Having the views of people who are much younger will be useful. Maybe we could hand over write-ups for the final decade to our kids :)

Rock Evolution – The History of Rock & Roll - 1961 (pg 62)

Whilst we didn’t think about the personal aspect when dreaming this up, I think that it’s perfectly reasonable to work major life events into write-ups as and when necessary. In fact we do it all the time when discussing music, don’t we? The old musical Time Machine idea.

Rock Evolution – The History of Rock & Roll - 1961 (pg 62)

It’s worth bearing in mind that the person doing the write-up sets the scene. Whilst they should reference what was important in the year, they can’t possibly hope to cover everything and they are free to focus on their personal favourites too. That may or may not leave the door open for you...

Rock Evolution – The History of Rock & Roll - 1961 (pg 62)

This is all good. Tomorrow, I’ll go through what people have said so far and put a list of years up on post #1. Obviously we are initially looking for people to fill out the 1960s to get us started but Saddleworth, threespires and I will plug any gaps as necessary.

Rock Evolution – The History of Rock & Roll - 1961 (pg 62)

Eventually, yes. I’m just trying to make sure too many of the years aren’t snapped up before people have had chance to check out the thread. Hard to tell how many people are willing to put in the hard work of coming up with an in-depth write-up. I suspect with your writing skills you’ll...
