    Hyde Road Stadium

The top image is from c.1907 and the multispan roofs were erected in 1910 on 3 sides of the ground. City then boasted Hyde Rd had covered accommodation for 35,000 in a 40,000 stadium. New Old Trafford had cover for about 10,000 at that time.

Attendance Facts - MCFC & LFC Comparison

I’m finding some of the comments on my Facebook funny. There are fans saying we can’t fill our stadium then same people are saying we’ve no ambition if we’re extending to 60,000. So many contradictions and inaccuracies. One guy’s even said we only have 60,000 fans. Blimey!

The student was JF Maille perhaps? Thanks for the comments I really appreciate them. There are so many myths, errors and inaccuracies out there that get repeated simply because people just take the stories and don’t dig deep. I’ve always (since 1980s) spent considerable time looking for multiple...

The ones with the wall/building behind are taken behind the Main Stand looking towards Galloway’s. The ones with the stripes (blue/white) are in front of the Main Stand.

For anyone interested there are some action shots and other images, including one of the King sat in the ‘royal box’, of Hyde Rd on my website. Here’s a link to everything referencing ‘Hyde’ (so you’ll get stuff about Hyde Utd too!): https://gjfootballarchive.com/?s=Hyde

    Hyde Road Stadium

Yes. It was built on a site that had previously been occupied by a house called White Cottage (or similar - all this is from my head not my notes). That site simply stretched back that far. When City we’re based at the pub there were temporary/low quality huts/buildings stretching up there...

His death is typically linked to WW1 impact and we included him in the special tribute a few years back by Sky. I took them to his grave at Denton cemetery.

Yes to all of that. The dog track was built instead of a new ground for City but many people, including myself for years, assumed they were moving to the ‘speedway’ stadium and hadn’t considered Mount Rd until I found that stuff in 2000s. It seems both sites were actually considered.

No, but I was asked to proof read some questions for Mastermind about 18 years ago on City. Sadly, they got the answers from one of those cheap ‘facts’ style books written by non-City fans to cash in and found another similar book which repeated the same shite. I explained they were full of...

Yes Dorsett and Burgess plus look out for City trainer Jimmy Broad (with towel) and at one point you can see our manager Tom Maley walking in front of the main stand. I used this in my Boys In Blue talks and highlighted them all as part of it. Broad is a real character. Oh and our first...

    Hyde Road Stadium

Here you go…. This is one I took and then used in my first book published in 1989. I took it from a similar angle to the earlier photo above specifically so I could do a comparison. I was surprised that the pedestrian crossing was still there (and it still is now - you can still see some of the...

If you look carefully there is a large C overlapping the M and a smaller C under the F for Manchester Central FC

It is. I included that image in Manchester A Football History.

    Hyde Road Stadium

I have photos of every stand at Hyde Rd and have recently helped an artist who is painting the venue. When I get chance I’ll post something significant on my website about the place or maybe my next free online history talk (after I’ve done tonight’s of course) should be about it? I could show...
